it doesn't matter what happens in the recall. While having the governor's mansion helps with a state, it can't turn an unwinnable one into a sure thing. We aren't aiming at Wyoming, Oklahoma or Kansas in 2004. If anything, having a Republican governor may make the state go blue by an even wider margin as backlash against the new governor (who won't be able to fix the problems) happens.
Even with the governor's mansion, massive vote fraud won't be too easy, as the Dems have all the statewide office holders and the legislature. If they were planning such a thing, they'd probably go after New York instead, which would far easier since it also has a Republican Senate. No point in organizing a huge recall for this when they could do it far more easily in New York. This basically boils down to some rich far right congressman trying to buy the governor's mansion, and now getting forced out of the race by Rove.
I recall hearing not too long ago that Bush's APPROVAL (not reelection ratings) were below 50 in California.
Might I also remind that if the legislature doesn't crumble Bush won't even be on the ballot there?
