Bush's Racist Statement
Did this really happen? Why didn't I hear anything about it? * is so dumb I want to hit something. (My apologies if this was already covered)

Time for Bush to See The Realities of Iraq

By George F. Will
Tuesday, May 4, 2004; Page A25

Oh? Who?

Appearing Friday in the Rose Garden with Canada's prime minister, President Bush was answering a reporter's question about Canada's role in Iraq when suddenly he swerved into this extraneous thought:

"There's a lot of people in the world who don't believe that people whose skin color may not be the same as ours can be free and self-govern. I reject that. I reject that strongly. I believe that people who practice the Muslim faith can self-govern. I believe that people whose skins aren't necessarily -- are a different color than white can self-govern."

What does such careless talk say about the mind of this administration? Note that the clearly implied antecedent of the pronoun "ours" is "Americans." So the president seemed to be saying that white is, and brown is not, the color of Americans' skin. He does not mean that. But that is the sort of swamp one wanders into when trying to deflect doubts about policy by caricaturing and discrediting the doubters.

2. and it's even more amazing that BIG time bush* boot-licker George Will
brought up the racist statements of his adored leader....

IMO, this slam by George Will (reTHUGlican - major bush* supporter and shill for racists-religious-fanatics reTHUGs) shows the collapse of the bush* propaganda machine and that many reTHUG rats are jumping fast off the bush* sinking ship....

4. So I guess no one told him about all the european
white-skinned muslims. Figures. Remember, he didn't know that Brazil had black people. Maybe Bill Maher should read a little something to him about the muslim religion.

6. On Sunday's "This Week," he couldn't roll his eyes fast enough.

He literally mocked whoever the conservative apologist was. He does seem to be thinking about making that rat leap off the ship.

ON EDIT: I just finished reading this essay, and must say it is one of the most excellent things I've ever read by George Will. This is a crucial paragraph, and he's practically hinting at the way he intends to vote in November by leveling these words:

This administration cannot be trusted to govern if it cannot be counted on to think and, having thought, to have second thoughts. Thinking is not the reiteration of bromides about how "all people yearn to live in freedom" (McClellan). And about how it is "cultural condescension" to doubt that some cultures have the requisite aptitudes for democracy (Bush). And about how it is a "myth" that "our attachment to freedom is a product of our culture" because "ours are not Western values; they are the universal values of the human spirit" (Tony Blair).

I never thought I'd ever say this, but George Will, I couldn't agree with you more. Thanks for saying what needs to be said, especially by conservatives.

8. Isn't it just great ....
that Bush is fighting racism of "a lot of people." Has he been talking to Trent Lott again?

But seriously, when all you see pretty much every day is white people, why wouldn't you think that white is the color of America's collective skin? Go to the Bush website sometime and count the number of non-Caucasian people in the crowd scenes for his photo ops. Hmmmmm.

9. PHOTO: bush* caters only to white audiences...and crusades...

this is bush*'s major voter bloc....the ones bush* caters to...with little christian symbols hanging from their necks, they are repetitively brainwashed by bush* PR machine to believe that those 'dark-skinners' are stealing their jobs....and THAT is why they are all out of work...it's not bush*'s fault...compassionate-conservative bush* is doing the best he can....

10. He said something very similar at the press conference
He isn't being racist, however, he is accusing those agains the war in Iraq of being racists.

I can't recall the exact words but it is something like "some people think brown skinned people don't deserve freedom" or "can't govern themselves"

He is using this metaphor to say either you are with us or you are racist. It didn't him in any any trouble last time so he keeps doing it.

Funny, Dean was torn apart for talking about people with confederate flags in their trucks--isn't that the same thing?

12. it is very racist to bomb the hell out of people
Edited on Tue May-04-04 06:58 PM by noiretblu
then claim you are "freeing" them....that you "respect" them...that you trust them to govern themselves.
these statements are for his moran supporters, and i agree with you that he is accusing others of being racist. that doesn't mean his statement isn't racist...it's racist to the core, because his crew is doing the exact opposite of what he claims.
