Were "insurgents" shelling Abu Ghraib to kill the women?
I watched Charlie Rose last night and he had some ME expert on his show. He said that there had been a lot of curiosity about why the insurgents were shelling Abu Ghraib prison; that several weeks ago 15 or so prisoners were killed.

The whispers are that the reason is that there have been stories of women being raped in the prison; that there is a cell block for women and the thinking is that they are better off dead. Has anyone heard any more about this story?

1. I saw pictures in one of the UK papers of a women
prisoner being sodomized and performing oral sex. I think these were British soldiers, not Americans. I didn't save the link.

4. Now I know why I didn't save the link
As a woman I can't help but empathize with her degredation and humiliation

Shame, Shame, America.

5. I think that those particular photos are fake.
I've heard that they are outtakes from a porn film.

That doesn't mean that it isn't happening. It's just that those particular photos are probably fake.

6. I don't know about pictures, but there is at least one rape cited in
General Taguba's report. I think they were implying that there were poorly trained Iraqis in the prison and one of them had raped either a woman or a juvenile detainee.

It was very curious when the prison was mortared.

8. Charlie Rose thread from last night:
Charlie Rose

And Seymour Hersh on O'Really:

HERSH: First of all, it's going to get much worse. This kind of stuff
was much more widespread. I can tell you just from the phone calls I've
had in the last 24 hours, even more, there are other photos out there.
There are many more photos even inside that unit. There are videotapes
of stuff that you wouldn't want to mention on national television that
was done. There was a lot of problems.

There was a special women's section. There were young boys in
there. There were things done to young boys that were videotaped. It's
much worse. And the Maj. Gen. Taguba was very tough about it. He said
this place was riddled with violent, awful actions against prisoners.

10. I read in LBN that there were flyers nearby the prison...
...with messages from the women inside stating that they had been repeatedly raped, and wanted to die due to the shame.

(Found it: it's in reply #1)

The newspaper reminds that militants attacked the prison several days ago. 22 prison guards and inmates were killed and 51 injured.

The reason for this was probably a leaflet that can be seen on the outside of the prison's wall. The newspaper says that similar leaflets are now appearing in many mosques in Baghdad.

Today there is no doubt that the cry for help from the hostages of that Iraqi prison provoked these attacks.

(from the flyer)
"We are held in the northern sector. Attack this prison and put an end to our disgrace, and if you cannot do this for the love of the Most High, tell someone who can stick up for us or give us some 'Bahe Maneh al-Hamel'. May Allah and Iraqi patriots put an end to our tortures". 'Bahe Maneh al-Hamel' is the Arab for 'contraceptive pills'.

11. That the US didn't level this prison from the onset is a disgrace.
I'm also sure that there are those who are fanning the flames. As we should have known they would.
