Is * really this disconnected??
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1521&u=/afp/20040504/pl_afp/us_vote_bush_kerry_040504195228&printer=1

LEBANON, United States (AFP) - US President George W. Bush (news - web sites) joked that his Democratic rival for the White House, Senator John Kerry (news - web sites), has foreign "mystery men" supporters -- but no real world leaders behind him.

Kerry said in March that decision-makers from abroad told him privately they hoped he will defeat the president in the November 2 election, but he has refused to identify them." He claims to have picked up some important endorsements from foreign leaders," Bush said. "Whoever these mystery men are, they will not be deciding this election." "I'm here to ask for the endorsement, not of foreign leaders, but of the American people," he told cheering supporters here during a two-day tour through vote-rich Michigan and Ohio.

********************************************************************

So here's my question, why would * be so stupid as to (excuse me, why would Rove be stupid enough to let him) bring up issues that highlight his many negatives? Kerry probably should have known better than to have said that in the first place, since no world leader is ever going to come out explicitly for him. But does ANYONE believe that 99% of them aren't praying like hell that he beats Chimpy???

Seriously, this is like challenging Kerry's war record. Why make it an issue. Am I missing something, or is this just another example of *'s incredible arrogance and lack of any perspective?

2. it will re-inforce in the minds of Bush's base
that Kerry makes stuff up..that's all...and many people will think foreign leaders should 'butt out' of US elections.

3. OMG, * actually said one true thing!
That is, if our voting isn't tampered with- "Whoever these mystery men are, they will not be deciding this election"... Yeah, the american people traditionally are the ones who vote for the president. Not sure if I trust that to be the case this year, though.

And now back on topic, yeah, I think he really is delusional, and again playing on the us-vs.-them idea- 'foreigners' want Kerry to win, so you better vote for me!

4. Maybe because
They know their audience is full of non-questioning true believers who will vote for bush no matter how much he screws up the country.

5. You know why Powell wanted Kerry to name names, don't you?
Because there's a good chance that some of those foreign leaders are from places like France...

Bush and Rove would love nothing more than to drag us back into that Freedom Fries/"let's flush the French wine down the toilet" bullshit again.

7. Makes sense. . .
but I'm guessing that he's failing to mention in these speeches that the Administration is now doing everything possible to make nice with these "foreigners" again with the hope that they'll bail us out of this mess.

Typical. These people really deserve him. The problem is that we get him too.
