According to the Republicans (McCain and Warner) Rumsfeld should have been responsible for informing Congress of the abuses in Iraq.

Uh - shouldn't it be the job of THE PRESIDENT to do this?

1. Not if the information never gets to the President.
Besides, the cabinet's main purpose is to effectively isolate the President. This cabinet is (unfortunately) quite good at it.

Rest assured that Bush will likely never take the fall for anything, unfortunately.

Ah, Rummy was probably getting ready to retire anyway. What does he lose by being the fall guy? Pretty much nothing.

5. In the past it would have been the Sec of Defense
who would be the ultimate person directly responsible. However, just this past October, Bu$h took control of the war in Iraq, away from the Pentagon and put Condi Rice in charge. By doing this he has made himself directly responsible for whatever happens in Iraq, including the apparently accepted practice of torturing prisoners.

Rice will manage Iraq's 'new phase'

By Judy Keen, USA TODAY

10/6/2003

WASHINGTON ? President Bush is giving his national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, the authority to manage postwar Iraq and the rebuilding of Afghanistan.

15. Actually, that would make Condi Rice ultimately responsible.
Which, once again, isolates Bush.

Unfortunately, the American public has a recent history of buying the "it wasn't our fault" bullshit that the administration puts out and is willing to accept the Bush-assigned scapegoat in whatever crisis is being played out. Bush would ultimately blame Rice or claim that Rumsfeld screwed up before Rice took over. Either way, Bush washes his hands of the matter.

Though, because of the emotional nature of the torture fiasco, Bush will be held somewhat responsible in the court of public opinion. If the administration holds true to form, they'll blame this on someone else very quickly.

3. exactly
they'll make up some statistic about 67.23 percent of enlisted personnel signed up under Clinton, therefore Clinton was responsible.

"Hey look behind you, it's Clinton!"

16. I agree-Rummy's not going to take the fall.
I credit Rummy with being the smartest of the bunch, he'll have his own ass and Bush's covered. I could see him saying "Well I told the Vice President" and taking Cheney down. There's no love lost between those two.

10. Rumbow should step aside so Bush can appoint Kenny Boy!
Kenny could fix things so the war would be Free of Charge on the books and then Halliburton wouldn't look so bad! BUSH IS THE CIC, and this is going to trickle uphill in an election year!

11. It's not abuse, it's TORTURE
That's how they're going to make this fade away like all the other scandals, by pretending it's not and not calling it by it's right name.

Those photos depicted blatant unequivocal torture!

Outing Valerie Plame was not a leak, it was treason!

Cheney is not getting deferred pension from Halliburton, he is engaging in war profiteering!

It wasn't intelligence failure or just 16 words, it was a blatant lie to embark on an illegal invasion.

Doonesbury did a thing about Arnold when everyone was saying that he was "groping" women... sexual abuse is a bit different than groping! And torture is different than humiliation or abuse!

I'm loving today's Dilbert (it relates so perfectly):
