2. Terror Suspects Charged in NATO Bomb Plot
ANKARA, Turkey (AP) - A Turkish court filed terrorism charges against nine suspects Monday in connection with an alleged plot to set off a bomb at a NATO summit in Istanbul next month that President Bush is scheduled to attend.

Private CNN-Turk television said three of the suspects had been plotting a suicide attack on Bush and other Western leaders at the summit, but officials could not confirm the report.

4. I hate to hear about assassination plots on ANY leaders.
and that includes Bush. I want him out of office, not playing the martyr roll like the Pubs would do for the next CENTURY! Besides I really think it would be worse if Cheney or Hastert were President.

I am not surprised by the threat though. I'm sure there have been many since he has consistently made enemies everywhere!

19. We have had 4 assasinations in the US
that were successful and at least 4 maybe 5 attempts.

Assasinations

Lincoln, J W Booth
Garfield Charles Giteau
Mckinley Colgiz ( sp? )
Kennedy No idea - It could not have gone down the way the Warren
Commission stated.

Attempts I know of

Teddy Rosevelt Forgot - an anarchist ?
Gerald Ford Squeaky From
Ronald Reagon Hinkley

and mayby Cllinton. ( remember the small plane crashing into the White House? )

I think it was Stokley Carmichael ( sp ) that said violence is as American as Apple Pie.

A number of presidents fought duels... or was it just Andrew Jackson?
I am not really trying to make a point, I just find this information fascinating.
I guess my sense is this is nothing new to American history.

6. *GULP* I hate to think of Cheney as official ruler,...
,...or, being in such fragile health, Cheney having a heart attack and Delay taking over.

YIKES!!!

I suppose there will be a helluva lot more of these plots against our leadership. See what neocon - PNAC policy gets you: increased terrorism and decreased sense of security. Stupid people.

9. I wonder about this too
It's easy to say "We foiled an attempt" and then fake the evidence.

I know I shouldn't think this way but I can't help it.

12. Well, remember...
Not to keep the conspiracy theories afloat, but remember... it was Turkey where those guys were apprehended transporting "YOURANIUM" (who then, mysteriously, were allowed to walk free).

So I don't put too much stock in Turkish intelligence services.

16. I never believe this shit either.
He will have 500 freaking Secret Service people around him, just like his trip to England. Plus they will probably be there for a month before sniffing out every inch of the place.

Because they fucking well knew what could happen with planes used as missiles.
