1. Sounds like Bush is going to lose Ohio
Seems like fiscal irresponsibility is hitting Ohio from all levels of government.

Taft is the worst Governor in Ohio history. Blackwell is an opportunist who wants to run for governor in 2006 and sees his little tax repeal idea as a way to get name recognition. Unfortunately for him, all the dumb redkneck Repubs in southern Ohio now know who he is, and that he's black, which basically eliminates any chance he had of winning in a Republican primary in Ohio. Besides, repealing the sales tax would bankrupt the state (We've already slashed 20% of the operating budgets of our state universities.)

As for Bush, he's royally and completely SCREWED in Ohio. He's gonna lose Cuyahoga, Summit, and Franklin Counties by 350,000 votes. He doesn't have enough redknecks left to vote for him to overcome that. They're all moving south to Georgia and Florida where the jobs are.

Look at the names of the towns Bush is going to in Ohio, other than Toledo (Which will go Dem), recognize any of them? Why? Bush can't go to Cleveland, he'd have a 1000 (at least) protestors outside. He can't go to Akron. He can't go to Akron. He can't go to Youngstown. Nope, can't go to Colombus. Maybe suburban Cincinatti? Basically he can't go anywhere outside west and soutwest Ohio.

4. Pretty interesting
Start with Governor Bob Taft, a Republican who is now making common cause with public employee unions in an attempt to block the repeal of his tax increases. Last summer the Governor and Republican-controlled Legislature broke repeated pledges not to raise taxes without permission from voters.

Citing the slow economy and labeling it "reform," Mr. Taft promoted and signed a $3 billion tax increase -- the largest in state history. He raised gas levies, lifted the state sales tax by 20% and extended it to such services as manicuring, dry cleaning and satellite television. In his January state of the state speech, Mr. Taft even praised lawmakers for their "courageous decision" in grabbing more taxpayer cash to spend.

So long as Taft associates himself with Bush, it looks like Ohio won't be ceded to the neo-cons in November. :bounce:

6. This whole tax issue is one giant Red Herring
We need to get back to some basic fiscal responsibility. In order to live in this nation with the life style we have grown used to it requires us to spend and invest. Rather than electing legislators who are qualified and willing to assess the real costs and end the corruption that has become pervasive across this land we continue to elect anyone who promises easy fixes and offers empty solutions.
We should fell proud to pay our taxes, knowing they are going to provide us the best place on Earth to live and will continue to invest in a positive future for our children.
We have made "Taxes" our enemy. In fact, the enemy is the body of fools we hire, as temp help I might add, who are willing to invest enormous sums of money to get their hands on our money!
