I know there are multiple discussions going on regarding this, but I wanted to make sure this little gem from the Yahoo / USA Today story didn't slip through the cracks:

"Even though his travels this week are purely political, taxpayers will pay some of the bill. It costs at least $35,000 an hour to keep Air Force One aloft, and federal rules require Bush's campaign to reimburse only the cost of a first-class plane ticket for Bush and political aides traveling with him. The campaign pays for bus rental, meeting halls and other venues. Reporters reimburse the campaign for their share of bus costs and pay for their own hotels and meals."

4. The amount of overhead that

a vulnerable incumbent presidential campaign has to pay is beyond astronomical. The advantage that scares so many of us Democrats is negligible in my opinion.

While it's wrong that we pay for Air Force One... Clinton etc undoubtedly had the same advantage. I'd rather have Bush in the plane than on the bus, less chance of his death, and less chance of Cheney officially becoming President, eh?
