What Republican Interns are doing
A friend today told me her son is working as an intern for a Republican congressmen. It seems that one of his first assignments was to study a speech of John Kerry's from 20 years ago to find out what kind of dirt they could use in the campaign against him. Does that piss off and/or scare anyone else but me? I just kept getting the picture of every Republican congressmen & Senator's office in DC making their interns pore over pages and pages of Kerry's entire record. That's a whole lot of dirt being dug, my friends.

1. Only Dems have a past tense. Repukes only want you to look forward.
W's past is off limits, but one JK vote against the rule to amend the previous question is fair game?

Actually, I know a current White House intern. She opens and logs presidential gifts. Dangerous work for long hours and no pay.

2. Piss me off? Yes. Surprise me? No
Nothing with Bush is about the present or the future, because it would be disastrous to him to defend what he is currently doing or what this country will be in 4 years with him running the show.

The reason they have to go back 20 years is because there is NO RECORDED OPINIONS of what Bush thought or did 20 years ago, because he was...well, what the hell WAS he doing???? Just rumors he can try and dismiss out of hand.

Kerry at least has stood by his convictions and was willing to put his opinion on record for later scrutiny, which I might add, he is not backing away from at all.

That should say all that needs to be said about the two men.

3. Well, pigs do like to wallow in the dirt....
...is it any wonder that the military can commit atrocities and not worry if any one is watching. Rather than being leaders, the republicans are just carrying on politics as usual.

4. yeah, supporting a peace dividend JUST LIKE CHENEY
is the sort of dirt they're stuck with.

Kerry didn't make a lot of mistakes. Unless you're looking through the Neocon lens and telling the truth just doen't matter as long as you get your own way.

5. Hahahaha well it kind of pisses me off...
...but then again, it's kind-of funny that they keep focusing on the distant past. I think people can see right through that and as we saw during the Monica scandal, people do sometimes backlash against what they feel are stupid tactics.

But isn't this illegal, using a congressional staffer to do this? Why don't you get this whole thing took down? You could get a lot of people in trouble and that would help us. I'd like to be in the position you are now. I wonder who we could leak it to.

6. Maybe...
... after they read a few speeches they'll realize they're working for the wrong side.

7. Hahaha

Doesn't scare me a bit. I think it just illustrates how desperate they are. If they are having to go over 20 year old speeches looking for something to use, that tells me their available weaponry is pretty limited. :bounce:

11. Good thing Democrats don't have to dig, huh?
We don't need to research shit. We can just stick the various Bush transcripts on a wall and throw a dart. A winner with every throw.

13. Kerry has a lot of strengths vs. Bush, but his single biggest one is in
the "mythology" of their youthful pasts. Kerry the War Hero who VOLUNTEERED from a position of privilege, vs. Bush, who SLID into his cushy TANG slot using HIS position of privilege and then didn't even show up. The more you think about it, the more powerful it really is.

Rove may be a stupid ass, but he does have balls. He tries to take his enemies biggest strength and neutralize it or even make it a liability. So he purposefully focuses on Kerry stuff from around the Vietnam era to try to get negatives out of that, so that anytime anyone thinks "Kerry/Bush - '70's" they'll think about Jane Fonda or some stupid speech or medal throwing instead of remembering that JK is actually BRAVE and GWB is a CHICKENSHIT. I don't think this strategy worked with the "medal throwing" brouhaha because JK did a good job SLAMMING that one back in their face.

This "make a weakness of your enemy's strength" deal kinda worked with the smears of McCain as some kind of unbalanced stereotypical Nam Vet.
