Empty Suitcases in NYC
Has anyone heard about the 5 or so empty suitcases found in Penn Station, the CIA headquarters and a few other places over the weekend. It is said to be a test by the terrorist, to check accessibility. I heard about it over the weekend on the news and have not been about to find anything else. I was just check to see if I were crazy or not, and see if anyone else have heard the same thing.

1. I saw the report on Faux News, therefore I figured it was
a white house fairy tale and didn't give it a second thought

4. I had caught a snip about it
Edited on Mon May-03-04 08:37 AM by prodigal_green
then looked it up on the web. This is from a law enforcement site:

http://officer.com/article/article.jsp?id=12363&siteSection=1

I wouldn't doubt that folks are doing dry runs. The 9/11 terrorists took the flights that they eventually used to destroy the WTC and pentagon several times before actually committing the crime.

I wonder how effective using empty suitcases would be in this case, as bomb-sniffing dogs would probably locate such items before a visual check would catch it.

On edit: Officer.com credits the NYPost, so yeah, the veracity is somewhat questionable.

9. doesn't sound like terrorists to me
don't they have to die too? Our indoctrination says they value no life, including their own. Ok sarcasim off, but I find it strange that when I got into work today- we had an e-mail stating that one of our major clients was actually attempting to breach our security (it is a test) and the memo was reminding us to be evermore diligent in confronting strangers trying to access our campus.

6. If this had been an actual bomb...
Didn't the terrorists leave lots of good information the last time?

They left flight manuals, the Koran and other highly incriminating evidence in their rental car at the terminal. Very convenient. It was a wonderful, instant confirmation of what our intelligence agencies suspected.

It would seem more in keeping with the terrorists that they would leave a warning, you know, something along the lines that "If this had been an actual bomb, you would be dead. In the case of an actual bomb, kiss your ass goodbye."

8. But not for a rehearsal, or a test run...

...to see how long it takes for a package to be noticed, so they can set timers, for example.

Sounds a little fishy, I'd have suspected that video would have shown who might have dropped off the suitcases.

10. Something not right about this.
Why tip off security with a "dry run"?

It's either misdirection, or it's all about sustaining public anxiety on behalf of, ahem, "parties unknown."

11. Wouldn't this amount to them saying LOOK AT OUR PLANS?
I think this was done by somebody to embarrass the authorities to improve security.

12. i saw this reported too
but not on FAUX or the POST.

I'm pretty sure I saw it on the local cable station, NY1.

there is very little (obvious) security at either major train stations and as for the subways..... nothing.

14. Sure this isn't Homeland Security, checking up on us?
Come to think of it, I saw an abandoned backpack on 14th Street, a couple of weeks ago.

If someone wants to do it, they can do it.

I wish to point out that NYC is been there, done that, and it will be really hard to get the impressive numbers of the WTC again and perhaps it would be better to try a new city......just a thought.

But if we get blown up because the GOP wanted a photo op in NYC, I will be sincerely annoyed.

15. Ever wonder why
Edited on Mon May-03-04 10:54 AM by prodigal_green
the only people that support * war on terra (his version of it I mean, not the case for actually dealing with terrorism) are in no way, shape or form likely to be victims of a terrorist attack?

I was on another board (weight lifting actually), and someone who I know is from Alabama was going on about "remember the World Trade Center!" I told him not only do I remember the smell, the dust and the screams, but I still have nightmares about it, frequently. I reassured him that the terra-sts weren't targeting his trailer park.

Yeah, I know that is snooty but I was pissed.

16. Terrorists like SURPRISE...a Cabal move to MOVE the RNC convention?
They aren't going to LEAVE 5 suitcase and give away their plans...sounds like security planning for the RNC convention.

OR...perhaps the beginning of a Cabal plan to raise alert in order to MOVE the RNC convention??
