What if Bush pulled a Johnson?
I've been thinking about this lately. I know it's a real longshot, but what if Bush were to announce he was not seeking re-election. Would the Republican Party nominate their candidate on the floor of the convention hall in New York?

14. What credibility deficit?
Hey, he's better than Trent Lott was, at least as a Majority Leader. You know that guys already campaigning in Iowa? And he's hard to attack because he doesn't say anything overtly offensive in terms of race, or sex, etc. Nice family-man too and doesn't have all the huge-money connections a lot of the others have either. If I was a Republican, after they get their butts kicked for being greedy war criminals, I'd be looking to guys like Frist to rebuild image.

Pulling a Johnson would be like making snowballs here. Just won't happen. Not with that warchest, not with that arrogance.

18. not going to happen, but...
If it did, it would be a bloody fight in New York. There would be those pushing for McCain, Jeb, Roy Moore, Rummy and so on. Since convention delegates are normally more on the far right of things, the nominee would have to win them over.

I think if W said no, repugs would end up tearing each other apart. It would be fun to watch.

22. Nah, he knows he is going to win, no matter how serious and damaging
the economic, environmental, and international debacles, including pre-emptive wars: he knows because if Diebold is allowed to count the votes, he is assured of winning.

Man won't make him step down. God could you make him step down one way or another...please? Could you send him some pretzels and no one around? And let Cheney find him? Maybe he would become unplugged? His ticker couldn't take it.

32. No way
Bush, with the possible exception of Richard Nixon, is the most selfish man ever to occupy the White House, legally or illegally.

He is running and he expects to win. What should bother us is what he will do to fulfill that expectation. We saw last time that those working for him were willing to disenfranchise voters and not count votes.
