I am SUCH a dork
I'm sitting here watching the JFK special on the History Channel and am weeping uncontrollably. I've been a "Kennedy buff" for years, so none of this information is new to me, but I am just torn up with my sense of loss, even 41 years later. When I think of the THING that's occupying the White House now, my blood just boils over. JFK had so much intelligence, wit, courage and leadership qualities - how the HELL did we wind up with Bush now??

1. You're not a dork
It's a long, long way down from JFK to the Chimp.

2. Not a dork
When JFK died, the dream of an American that was all good died with him. After him, Viet Nam, Watergate, the assassinations of MLK, Bobby, riots in Chicago, everything went down the tubes. It's worth crying over.

3. Exactly!!!
And I just finished the new Teddy Roosevelt biography, the contrast showed me just how horrible the fuckwad who's currently taken over the WH really is and how far down we've gone.

TR would kick Shrub's ass from here to Timbukto, and would do the same with the rest of the repukes. In fact, he wouldn't even recognize them as members of his own party, (especially in regards to environmental and economic issues) that's how much it's changed. 100 years ago, I would have been a republican, not a dem, and so would most people on here I'd bet.

The repub party then was like the liberal/progressive wing of the Dem party now, while the Dems then were like the repukes are now.

6. Who authored the biography?
I would like to read it.

Thanks. :)

And, you're right, President Roosevelt would kick Dubya's ass to Timbukto.

4. They killed JFK, RKF, Malcom X, and MLK
Edited on Sat May-01-04 10:22 PM by TroubleMan
They killed the strong, charismatic liberal voices. Without that, we may not have had to endure Nixon, Reagan, or the bushes (ergo no OBL or Sadaam Hussein, either).

McGovern would have probably won. Think how great the world could have been.

I'll never forgive the people who I suspect did this.

(on edit) Add Wellstone to the list.

9. They put Jesus on a cross, they put a hole in JFK...

There's a baby born each minute who will never have a chance.
Now don't that make you want to just get up and start to dance?

7. Good
Hang in. It is up to you to live your life and that was part of the message that was sent. He could not do it by himself. The lasting message from all this, in my observation is, " I have a dream".

Make it your dream.

8. I have thought the same thing, many times.
Out of 270 million people in a nation that has produced a Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, FDR and MLK, our president is George W. Bush? What an indictment of who we are as a people today.
