I only heard a little of Leno off & on, mostly anti-Kerry jokes, so I changed the channel. When I switched it back, it was over.

Wasn't this the same group Bush made his little slide presentation about looking for WMD? If not, who was that other group? I can't keep all these self-importatnt inside-the-beltway dinners straight.

21. The Correspondents Dinner is always tough

Gotta be the toughest gig in comedy. I've seen everybody bomb badly there, from Imus to Darryl Hammond to now Jay.

Leno started out pretty good, then went downhill pretty quickly, with canned video bits from his monologues that weren't that funny.

Part of the problem is that the Correspondents Dinner is a roast where you have to not only roast the guest, but the audience as well. And it's not some drunken crowd; it's people who take themselves very seriously about this stuff. Those who might think that Jay got too sharp or nasty are watching their first Correspondents Dinner. He barely stepped on the line a few times.

You should have seen Imus.
