How did the torture photos get released from the military?
I'm interested if anyone knows precisely the hands these photos went through to get from the military chain of command to 60 Minutes -- and to the world. Were they leaked to 60 Minutes by a patriot in the Pentagon?

It was essential that these photos get out to stop Bush, but unfortunately the Genii has gotten loose. There will be a response from the Muslim world for these desecrations - which is literally what they were meant to be.

I believe the War on Terror is real now -- even if it was manufactured before.

Everyone loses.

1. Read the New Yorker article.

The abuses became public because of the outrage of Specialist Joseph M. Darby, an M.P. whose role emerged during the Article 32 hearing against Chip Frederick. A government witness, Special Agent Scott Bobeck, who is a member of the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division, or C.I.D., told the court, according to an abridged transcript made available to me, “The investigation started after SPC Darby . . . got a CD from CPL Graner. . . . He came across pictures of naked detainees.” Bobeck said that Darby had “initially put an anonymous letter under our door, then he later came forward and gave a sworn statement. He felt very bad about it and thought it was very wrong.”

ON EDIT: I guess that really doesn't answer your question. I misread it... my guess is that the photos were obtained by CBS through some kind of leak from the military investigation?

3. So SPC Darby is a good American with some actual values,
home training. I wonder what the consequences to him (or her), if any, have been?

I think I read that a set of the pix were floating around, and someone

took them to a superior and said that things were happening that he couldn't deal with. Didn't they just work their way up from there?

2. I wonder at the stupidity of the people who recorded their depravity
for the world to see...They must have known that the pictures would get out....

4. A lot of people enjoy the trophies and memories of these good times.
That's why a lot of serial killers have sometimes photographed or videotaped their crimes, in some cases saving driver's licenses or jewelry or even parts of the victims themselves. Good times.

Sadly it's just a part of human nature. The dark part.

They do seem jubilant don't they? Almost intoxicated. Am I projecting my disgust on them?

7. No, it's the genius of capitalism, they made more money that way-it was
the mercenaries, while inflaming anti-Americanism and being paid with our tax dollars as awarded by the administration of George W. Bush aka The War President.

Plus these mercenaries are big campaign contributors

8. Somehow this behavior was enabled
It obviously took place in a leadership environment in which such things are not far from the normal.

6. Common theme among Iraqi's
While they disliked Saddam and were very happy to see him deposed - they consider him the student...and the US - the master.

I looked around in the world and saw evil,
Bad things, bad people,
We need to fight this evil,
And fight it we did...
and then when we looked round in the world,
what did we see?
The evil had developed right in me.
