? for DUers re: Ads during Sinclair's "Special Report"
On WSYX here in Columbus, there were seven (7) commercials during Nightline's preemption. All seven of these were public service announcements.

12:17-12:19
Little League Urban Initiative
Volunteers of America
Franklin County Dog Shelter

12:25-12:27
United Way of Central Ohio

12:31-12:33
Little League Urban Initiative
Girls and Boys Town Hotline
Keep Columbus Beautiful (Anti-litter PSA)

So, a couple questions:

1) Did the other Sinclair ABC stations run only PSAs in your area?

2) Was WSYX forced to run PSAs in response to pressure from its regular advertisers, who may have feared public backlash? or Did WSYX voluntarily run the PSAs to avoid putting its sponsors on the spot?

I'm not exactly sure what to make of this.

1. The national spots were gone?
Probably the network sold the spots, and they left with the show, or did Nightline air without commercials? In any case, it might be that Sinclair hadn't sold that time because ABC had already.

2. I know if I were an advertiser

I'd pull ALL my ads if one was run during the pre-emption.

No way I'd want my product boycotted, or to be seen as supporting this.

There were regular ads during Nightline

5. I saw a USO ad out of the El Paso station during Nightline....

Frankly, why did they have them interrupting at all??? Could have done them all at the end or the beginning...PSA or no PSA, it was sort of tacky...I thnk there were regular commercials, too.

The USO ad was very dignified....we're surrounded by Ft. BLiss, White Sands, so I can understand that one....
