I hope not. It's more powerful than I imagined it would be.

with photos of the soldiers, two on the screen at a time, with their names underneath. Where there are no photos available there is a picture similar to the banned ones of lined up, flag-draped coffins.

4. These commercials seem to cheapen it.
If you're going to do something like this, forgoe advertising for an hour.

12. Must be a local decision.
All I saw in Chicago were public service announcements for the Red Cross and a bunch of those Ad Council spots; child abuse, etc.

5. I work part time in an office with some demented
freepers who listen to Rush in the morning and Hannity in the afternoon. Usually I listen to Pacifica on my walkman to drown out the din, but today I had to interface with another co-worker and heard a few minutes of Rush. Positively unbelievable. On the topic of tonight's Nightline he actually said America is such a great country that even though this war in Iraq is going on, we can choose not to pay attention to it. It doesn't have to concern us. He actually said words to that effect, and the freeptards were nodding in agreement. They are beyond draft age, and have no kids - like Rush - so what the hell do they care. We are in some serious shit when the power elite can cavalierly dismiss the consequences of this preemptive mess they helped to create.

15. This is one reason
people are so bitter about the lack of a draft. Even if those people had kids it would be unlikely they would be in the military. Thus even with kids those people could still ignore the war as the children of their maids, gardners, and garbage men go off to war.

7. Seeing those pictures
makes one realize why people like Charlie Rangel wants a draft. It seemed like close to 40% of those people were African American or Hispanic. It was a very moving show.

11. I somehow managed to sit through the whole thing.
It was a horrid experience, particularly since only a few of the soldiers named were older than me (I'm 38).

It also didn't help that they kept interrupting the show for fucking commercials! I know that's how ABC makes its money, but there was something fundamentally wrong with interrupting the recitation of a list of our war dead to broadcast upbeats ads for cars and toothpaste.

Ted Koppel's closing remarks were fairly sickening, too. He essentially accused those on both sides of the Iraq war issue of cynically using our dead troops for political gain. Of course, Koppel never said a word about the Bush Junta doing the same goddamned thing. Heaven forbid he should offend the GOP suits at Sinclair Media!

14. I'm surprised at the number of women who died.
I didn't count them but there were more than I had expected. I've only heard about 3. The American Indian girl who was with Jessica and the twin who was serving with her 2 sisters and one more who was killed I believe with the group Jessica served with.

It was very moving to see such young men and women gone before their time.
