Definition of torture according to the Geneva Convention
Edited on Fri Apr-30-04 07:10 PM by nothingshocksmeanymo
(for those posters who don't recognize torture when they see it)

Part I
Article 1
For the purposes of this Convention, torture means any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for such purposes as obtaining from him or a third person information or a confession, punishing him for an act he or a third person has committed or is suspected of having committed, or intimidating or coercing him or a third person, or for any reason based on discrimination of any kind, when such pain or suffering is inflicted by or at the instigation of or with the consent or acquiescence of a public official or other person acting in an official capacity. It does not include pain or suffering arising only from, inherent in or incidental to lawful sanctions.
This article is without prejudice to any international instrument or national legislation which does or may contain provisions of wider application.

4. Any idiot can tell it's torture.
If they deny it they've got some ulterior motive.

5. Depends on what you feed them!
They need a little jerk on their chain every once in a while! That makes a Jerk on both ends of the chain, but it's still too fun to pass up sometimes! At least we have someone to take a slap at who deserves it!

3. it is obvious to me

that those that have been identified are guilty of violating the Geneva Convention.

What really bothers me is why are the perpetrators of these CRIMES not being prosecuted? The woman named England gets demoted, not dishonorably discharged and charged with crimes! What happens to her boyfriend? Are they going to merely "demote" him too?

These people need to be thrown out of the military, tried for war crimes and convicted if deemed guilty.

7. I lived through the Vietnam Era.
Tipping-point revulsion, in the largest number of people, was cumulative. Once it reached the tipping point, it was a surprisingly quiet thing. Really sneaky in the way it was just there one day. There was no "one thing", a single point of inflection.

That's what is gonna happen here. As sure as god made little green apples.

And STILL could care less! Still smirking! Still Stupid! The Viet Nam era was still not this crazy and dangerous! We have now become what we have always deplored in the past! Bush may not have done this but it is happening on his watch! Can NOT be blamed on Clinton!

11. Food for Thought: Soldier's Code
SOLDIER'S CODE

I. I am an American soldier - a protector of the greatest nation on earth sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States.

II. I will treat others with dignity and respect and expect and others to do the same.

III. I will honor my Country, the Army, my unit and my fellow soldiers by living the Army values.

IV. No matter what situation I am in, I will never do anything for pleasure, profit, or personal safety which will disgrace my uniform, my unit, or my Country.

V. Lastly, I am proud of my Country and it's flag. I want to look back and say that I am proud to have served my Country as a soldier.
