24. You're right.
The media only treated it as if it were a conspiracy theory because they were too lazy, inept, scared or a combination to report the truth.

On second thought, I'm not so sure I would let them off that easily. The media seemed downright giddy during the lead up to war. They pushed aside entirely any administration critics. They downplayed the protests, and brought on pundits to pontificate the innate beauty of war. They failed to examine the long term consequences of an invasion. They never discussed the neo-con agenda in any manner that would allow the masses to determine whether it was a worthy goal.

They are every bit as culpable as the war planners. Now that it's "safe" for them to take an opposing view, they want to start apologizing. We are stuck in a quagmire with no good exit strategy, most of the world seems to fear and hate us, our military has been embarrassed once again, thousands of innocent people have lost their lives. The media has blood on their hands.

27. the only "conspiracy theory"
Edited on Fri Apr-30-04 08:59 AM by PATRICK
was the easily provable one about a cover-up of the truth and blocking of any access to the truth by the administration and the subservient media.

If the media is going to act like competent dupes "deceived" by the WH it is still a coverup- now retreating to their personal posteriors.

Theories that had to reason from obscured and withheld facts at the outer limits of "conspiracy theory" had the luxury of defending the truth and logic and so you could walk pretty far out on a limb and not only be right but very plausible. You didn't even have to be extremely knowledgable or smart.

Only real live coo-coo nuts could take the weak WH propaganda at face value closed off from the rest of the planet. Relying with star-struck faith on Powell alone made fools of way too many 'responsible" people- surprisingly uninformed of Powell's dismal Vietnam record. The nuts as it turns out are the sycophants serving the lies. The "crazies" knew what they were doing except they were idiotic about results.

So how far does the media go for "redemption'?

25. tell 'em, Skittles
where were these bastards in 2000, especially 12/12/2000. And where were they during the fucking buildup to war when most of us here on DU were protesting, blast faxing and emailing Congress ... when millions worldwide marched with a common theme: NOT IN MY NAME.

May they all rot in eternal hell for the horror they have wrought.
It breaks my heart to think of all the innocents killed because of geopolitical folly of a bunch of smug bastards.

And John Kerry better start speaking out AGAINST this disaster as he did against Vietnam in 1971!

Do give details about Leslie Stahl's appearance tonight.

Hi,

Absolutely! I'm so tired of people appearing to be shocked by the fact that there were no WMD, no link to Al Queda etc.

I tired of people saying "they had no idea"....there were millions of us here in the US saying it from day one.....millions around the world saying it.....but we were considered to be the loonies.

Thanks for letting me rant!

Cheers,
Kim

Edited on Fri Apr-30-04 09:53 AM by drfemoe
from my social circle because they defended the war from the beginning. I could not. One of them contacted me recently and said, "I don't know why it is so hard for the Ira*i people to accept freedom". I just can't deal with that level of brainwashing or blindness .. whatever it is. I used to be an idealist. Too many people have proved they are just too stupid for words. Idealism is a thing of the past for me.

17. hopefully...
There have been several tide changings since i started posting here in '01 via various pseudonyms.

We'd complain about the media whoring out for the bush agenda for several months then a couple of mainstream reporters would actually say something critical of the administration. we would declare it a "turning of the tide", but almost as soon as the story broke, the reporter makes an about-face and puts the republican spin on it or just drops it all together.

enron, plame, harken, halliburton no-bid contracts, kyoto treaty, dissolution of nuclear non-proliferation treaties with russia and now the WMDS in Iraq, or lack thereof. These are some seriously shady, underhanded goings on, but noone wants to touch it.

23. Conspiracy theory, yeah right.
There were MILLIONS OF PEOPLE throughout the US and world who saw that Bush's run to war was not justified! The anti-war movement was based on FACTS. For Matthews to state that the anti-war movement was a "conspiracy theory" simply cements his place as a war enabler who is now trying to mitigate his participation. Cowards and liars the lot of them and Matthews can rot in hell.

29. Whatever you do - do not trust (mainstream) media.
They have proved that they can't be trusted. They send a Leslie Stahl or a Chris Matthews out there and it means nothing. They are soldiers in the war against free speech and democracy.

The CORPORATIONS of Murdoch, the NBCs, and TimeWarner/AOL give all the orders to these soldier mouths. Media CEO and SOLDIER MOUTHS are partners with the White House. The White House and all their soldiers are employees of teh corporations and the military. We are a CAPITALISTIC MILITARY DICTATORSHIP.

Let the corporations prove me wrong. They are subtle and steady. They are also as sure of what they are doing as the media in the USSR and People's Republic were and are.

30. Yes, they're throwing us a bone...
Every once in a great while, they "do their jobs" and we get all verklempt about the possibility of The Press finally remembering what they're supposed to be doing.

It's all smoke-screen. Until I start seeing the jiggly-boobed bimbos on FAUX with puzzled looks on their faces as they read "Relliable Sources have stated that the goal of the Bush Administration is world domination, as laid out on the PNAC web site..." off the prompters, I'll not be too eager to give 'em a hug.

Remember: "The 'Liberal Media' is ONLY as liberal as the Conservative coprorations that own them will ALLOW them to be..."

And that's how you get stuff like "The Simpsons" and "King of the Hill" from an outfit that is the propaganda arm of the BFEE. the "entertainment" is only "Bread and Circuses". the "infotainment" is mind-control propaganda.

Never forget that.

that some folks squeal about "conspiracy theories".

If, in fact, nine-eleven happened according to the "official" story, there was CONSPIRACY involved. Are we expected to believe that 19 guys that showed up and hijacked four airplanes at the same time was a COINCIDENCE?

So only the "bad" guys plan?

42. quote Chris Matthews on Imus
MSNBC's Chris Matthews: "Today, this is the big story of this war. It was pushed not just by the President for all kinds of reasons, his father and everything else but there was a strong ideological push for this war. It was using stuff they were getting from the exile community especially Ahmed Chalabi to make the case that there was a connection to 9/11 when they couldn't really make that case. Then they started pushing this weapons of mass destruction thing which really had nothing to do with the motive for the war. They were taking stuff and shoving it from Ahmed Chalabi's pile of crap and taking all that Intel and then sending it only through the intelligence agencies, the DIA and the CIA and shoved it right over to the Vice President's office and handed it to Scooter Libby, chief of staff, who put it in the speeches for the Vice President. He started spouting it for months. So what you had was this garbage coming from Chalabi, from Douglas Feith's office, which Powell calls it the Gestapo office, shoving it over to the Vice President's office, the Vice President mouthing it. This was all in the NY Times two days ago. Finally the conjecture and the anger that Powell feels towards what he calls the Gestapo office, the NY Times is now reporting. So I think that all these so called conspiratorialists turns out to be true. This war was shoved, pushed, as a connection to Al-Qaeda, pushed as weapons of mass destruction and all that stuff pushed through people who wanted the war from day one."
