1. Anacortes is a nice little burg.
Not as nice as Bellingham, but hey, it's Skagit county.

2. It's probably that awful woman who owns the Select Styling salon

I got in a heated debate with her over the phone a year ago last October, when she had the nerve to put up a nasty sign chastising Jim McDermott (not her representative) and David Bonior for going to Iraq. I called them up (from Seattle!) and asked who was responsible for that, and got into quite the debate with her. She and the other person who was there (don't know if it was a co-worker or not) were under the impression that * was a fighter pilot in Vietnam and actually went there and served. I set them straight on that (I think) and actually compiled a lot of material to send them to read about all the chickenhawks, but then decided it was ridiculous on its face to send a bunch of political stuff to a woman I didn't know in a town I don't live in.

Last week, we drove by there on our way to the San Juans, and she was at it again. She had a sign up that said, "Thank you President (sic) Bush for our tax cuts!" Can she be serious? They just proposed raising the sales tax in Washington 1% (to over 9%) to cover the Every Child Left Behind shortfall.

Her salon is located suspiciously close to the big banner that hangs over Commercial Avenue.
