Kerry Demands Bush Prove Guard Service

Tuesday April 27, 2004 1:01 PM

By NEDRA PICKLER

Associated Press Writer

WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - John Kerry, a decorated Navy veteran criticized by Republicans for his anti-war activities during the Vietnam era, lashed out at President Bush on Monday for failing to prove whether he fulfilled his commitment to the National Guard during the same period.

Conservative critics have questioned whether Kerry deserved his three Purple Hearts for battle wounds, an issue the Democratic presidential candidate sought to put to rest last week by releasing his military records. On Sunday, a top Bush adviser criticized Kerry for leading anti-war protests after he returned from the battlefield.

``If George Bush wants to ask me questions about that through his surrogates, he owes America an explanation about whether or not he showed up for duty in the National Guard. Prove it. That's what we ought to have,'' Kerry told NBC News in an interview. ``I'm not going to stand around and let them play games.''

1. That warms my heart.....
I would like to see an ad showing the document where Bush checked off that he did not wish to serve overseas....Should Mr Bush be criticized for that??? Should he criticize others that went over in his place?

2. This Veteran wants to know the answer
throughout my years in the Navy, I saw several Sailors receive severe punishment, had their careers "topped", and a record that will follow them for life for doing a hell of a lot less than bush did. All he did was desert his military unit and denigrate his command's readiness. However, I believe they did just fine without his kind in the unit. Check out the latest masterpiece by Moveon.org. In a mere 45 seconds it exposes Kerry's and Bush's military service to their country. Share it near and far

3. Awesome
Glad to see Kerry getting on the offensive with this one. Hopefully, this is a trend that will continue with economics, foreign policy, anti-terrorism measures and successes, etc.!

4. A telling moment for the press...
Here's a chance for them to prove how "fair and balanced" they are. Maybe they could ask G.W. to explain the difference between ribbons and medals. Maybe Dick Cheney could be asked to explain his deferment. Weapons system votes? Give me a break. Show me the service.

5. Where are ALL of Bush's records?
Kerry is being nitpicked to death by the media's focus on questions raised by Bush surrogates.

Meanwhile, Bush is allowed by the media to stay above the fray and not have to respond to any questions about his stop-in-whenever-you-feel-like-it National Guard service.

Specifically, where are Bush's records regarding his failure to complete his flight medical?

I recall that Bush has said he hadn't used cocaine since the early 1970s. Can he honestly say that he NEVER has used cocaine? He has also said he did some things he wasn't proud of.

Did the Guard hake him off flight status because of substance abuse?

Can anyone tell us where all of Bush's records are posted?

10. He's dealt with this many times before and...
... the Hanoi Jane thing. This is all old news to Kerry, I think he'll come out of this stupidity smelling like a rose as he's always done.
