Nightline 4/26: Jordanian terrorist plot busted

Nightline Daily E-Mail
April 27, 2004

TONIGHT'S FOCUS: CHANGE OF BROADCASTS FOR TONIGHT: A frightening plot has been revealed in a rarely seen taped confession with several would-be terrorists. These Al-Qaeda suspects say they were but days away from bombing and chemical attacks against the U.S. Embassy and Jordanian government targets in Amman, Jordan. In chilling detail they outline the elaborate plot, including transfer of money, materials and equipment to carry out what could have been one of the deadliest Al-Qaeda attacks ever.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jordanian officials say that had the terrorists been successful, the bombs could have killed some 20,000 people and wrecked buildings within a half-mile radius.

The Jordanian cell members say they were following the orders of Abu Masab al-Zarqawi in Iraq. This is the same man that the U.S. government says is coordinating many of the terrorist attacks against the U.S. military in Iraq, including Saturday's attack against an oil rig off the coast of Iraq.

We'll bring you the latest reporting on this still breaking story. The broadcast we had scheduled for this evening on the rise in Evangelical Christian marketing will air in the near future.
