Dick Morris: Gore testing waters for possible run
This is what he said:

http://algoresupport.proboards19.com/index.cgi?board=newsalerts&action=display&num=1060313790

Former Vice President Al Gore told a New York University audience on Thursday that he expects to give his presidential endorsement to one of the nine other Democrats currently in the race.

But the man who helped Gore win a second term as Bill Clinton's right hand man said hours later that the ex-veep is plotting to get into the race himself.

"What I think Gore is doing is testing the waters," top political consultant Dick Morris told Fox News Channel's Bill O'Reilly.

"He's going to poll, he's going to give another speech, he's going to poll. And then, after a while, if he sees his numbers moving up and he sees that he could do this thing, he might get in."

Morris says that former New York Governor Mario Cuomo's recommendation on Wednesday that Gore run again was a dead giveaway to the ex-veep's true intentions.

"The is no chance - none - that Mario Cuomo did that without a phone call being made to him," said Morris. He noted also that Gore was invited to NYU to address the pro-Clinton group Moveon.org only after he asked for the invitation.

"There is no way that this isn't orchestrated," the former Clinton-Gore insider insisted.

Well he sure did sound like a person who would love to come back, lets hope it pans out that way!

2. Don't get your hopes up
and take what Dick Morris says with a grain of salt. He's evil.
Gore is a great man and gave an incredible speech today. We'll just have to wait and see.

4. I'd like to see that, but if Morris said it
how can it be true? Anyway it seems pretty clear that he's not making a run.

I am proud that my party has candidates for president committed to those values. I admire the effort and skill they are putting into their campaigns. I am not going to join them, but later in the political cycle I will endorse one of them, because I believe that we must stand for a future in which the United States will again be feared only by its enemies; in which our country will again lead the effort to create an international order based on the rule of law; a nation which upholds fundamental rights even for those it believes to be its captured enemies; a nation whose financial house is in order; a nation where the market place is kept healthy by effective government scrutiny; a country which does what is necessary to provide for the health, education, and welfare of our people; a society in which citizens of all faiths enjoy equal standing; a republic once again comfortable that its chief executive knows the limits as well as the powers of the presidency; a nation that places the highest value on facts, not ideology, as the basis for all its great debates and decisions.

6. Why does Gore have to do this kind of maneuvering?
I'm a tremendous Gore supporter but I'm getting tired of his games.

It's reminding me of Cuomo's performance through the 'eighties. It doesn't look good.

Gore's repudiation of Bush is sound, but his anger is so on-again/off-again, and his behavior is unpredictable and problematic.

10. Don't buy into Morris...He may have an opinion, but he's not part of
Gore's inner circle.

I don't think Gore is "unpredictable". He said he would speak out and that is what he is doing. He's working now and no longer in public life.
However, he is an "elder statesman" and is speaking out a particularly
well-chosen times. He spoke out months before the Iraq war, and also about the media/FFC consolidation. In a way, he was a catalyst for the ensuing discussion and action against these things. Now, he is summarizing and pulling together many of the ideas we've been concerned about and which the Dem candidates are trying to formulate into a message. In effect, he's given them an outline. It's interesting that Dean jumped on the speech with a comment, and that the first question at the Iowa meeting to Dean was about the Gore speech!

Gore would probably love to run, but doesn't have plans to do so. Unless there's a draft. Now, if Dean implodes, you might see an interesting situation develop, because the message Gore has been delivering seems to resonate with a lot of Dean's direct assault on Bush. What other candidate is coming across like Dean? or Gore???

I think Gore is using his position as "elder statesman" very well. He's speaking to Moveon types, bringing along the sheeple slowly, and stiffing the DLC...all at the same time.

I'm now waiting for his next topic of discussion. It's likely to be another "line in the sand" sort of speech, delivered at a pivotal point in the election season process...something to energize Democrats and
challenge the field....

16. Elder Statesman
You hit the nail on the head. Gore knows he'd be trashed in the media, he knows how tough it would be to run again, and he enjoys being able to give a speech without it being read for the "is he or isn't he running, what's his campaign going to be like" crap that follows most contender's speeches. He won't be dismissed by leftie/greens saying he's just pretending to be a lefty and that he'll be a conservative president. But since he does have a following, and he has been in the trenches, people will listen to him. And he can make a difference both in terms of energizing the party, and bringing his analysis to the table.

:kick:

Only problem is he isn't that elderly.

9. Dick Morris predicted that Hillary wouldn't run for the NY senate.
She would pocket the contributions and run for a future open seat in her home state of Illinois. When it was obvious Hillary would run in NY, he said no way she would win.

Shithead, toe-suck Morris is also contributing his "private" files to the counter-Clinton Library. These are suppose to contain all the dirt Morris compiled on Bill and Hill when he was their "friend" and advisor. If that jerk had any more supposed dirt on them , he would have released it long before now.

In short, Fuck Dick Morris.

12. Why do you keep calling Al Gore a liar, dems4america?
He repeated again today that HE IS NOT RUNNING IN '04. I believe him, but you'd rather believe Dick "NewsHax pundit" Morris and FAUX? :wtf:

You've found a pretty creative way to skirt around the DU rules and repeatedly bash all nine candidates who actually are running, but you don't fool me.

13. Gore isn't running
And I take him at his word. If Gore is going to run then he should announce now. It's not fair to the other candidates.

If he were, he would have said so already.

Since when have we given any credence to Dick Morris?
