Republicans made the Culture of Greed/Selfishness/Arrogance
go Mainstream, acceptable, like its normal. Reagan started it all, to be Rich by Nefarious means was not only OK but admired.

The Bush guys and their Masters have fine tuned this into a nightmare. Bush is a Pub Scam pure and simple, just look at the evidence of one continuous fuck up since Inaug Day.

If Greed/selfishness/arrogance in a small village is not good, why should it be for a Nation?

2. Greed Keeps You Looking Away...
...From what the others are doing since you're so absorbed on "what's in it for me". You don't care how they get it, just as long is they do...and then you're job is either to get more than they do or take it away. It's a very myopic world.

I guess it's easier to sleep at night when you have no concerns other than for yourself. So shallow, so dangerous.

Cheers!

5. The Rayguns brought back greed. They called it glamour.
After she bought the dishes that were so expensive it shocked everybody. They started saying they were bringing back glamour to the Whitehouse. They'd make a big deal about getting real dressed up and jumping in a limosine. The press hailed it. When we get our country back I want to seize the property of all the Reagan/Bush Republicans. Just to make them want to kill themselves. It's all they care about.

wear to a WH function and then keep it? I guess stealing is okay when you are the First Lady and have to look good.

7. John Stossel (sp?)
Anybody remember that ABC "news" special with John Stossel on greed where the conclusion was "greed is good." IIRC, he took a social-darwinistic approach and lionized people like Michael Milkin.

10. It's a product of capitalism itself.
As I see it, the base of a society is its economic system. That system determines the forms that all other aspects of society (law, religon, culture, etc.) take. These other aspects can then to some degree take on lives of their own, reinforcing the ideology that keeps the system in place.

In the case of the U.S. -- well, we were founded on Calvinism, which is a product of capitalist society in a very direct way. Thus, we have a great deal of reinforcement of the dominant ideology. There's historically been a divide between Marx's view of this issue and Weber's view; personally, I don't see them as mutually exclusive, but rather complimenting one another.

I know of no other country in which public assistance to the poor is so thoroughly despised.

You would think we could entertain the notion of Change, like we can and should do better? Just cause started out one way don we we should stay that way, otherwise we still be riding the horse and buckboards.

The purpose of the War on Poverty (like that of the New Deal) was to pacify civil unrest.

18. imagine how much easier life would be
if all you cared about was you and yours. Imagine the limited world you would live if you just didn't care about anything that did not affect you or were simply unable to see the long term consequences of the shit you supported. That is the life of a republican.

then help each other get ahead in business, banking and job tenure.

If you belong to one of their organizations, you're in. They will fire someone to hire YOU even though you may not be as qualified, because more importantly, you are a loyalist.

25. Not only that
They've made the poor/minorities/marginalized responsible for their own misfortunes the scapegoats for all social wrongs.

All "those people" have to do is get a job/get married/go to the "right" church and their lives will be alright. Really!
