saw this film last night about the coup in Venezuela. I honestly can't claim to be greatly informed on who Chavez is, though I liked what I saw in this movie (more on that later). But I found the movie to be very illuminating of issues that occur all over, including the US.
The film was done by a group of Scottish Documentary film makers, who happened to be there attempting to make a documentary on Chavez himself. Being as how media played such a very central role in the events that transpired I'm sure Chavez's followers were more than happy to have them around while everything went down.
Chavez was portrayed as a man who worked very hard to INCLUDE everyone in democracy. To the point of having neighborhood groups that helped people read and learn the constitution of that country. The opposition was shown telling their organizations to watch their household help... because they might be part of one of these neighborhood groups, heaven forbid.
The media was a major player in the events. There were a number of privately owned media channels, and a single state run channel. The clips from privately owned media, and their involvement in instigating the events that occured were astounding. In particular using camara angles to make it look like pro-Chavez forces were firing on unarmed opposition when this was not the case at all.
I found it a very worthwhile movie to see.
