Poll question: Do you support easing the economic embargo against Libya?
U.S. Eases Economic Embargo Against Libya
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States eased an economic embargo against Libya on Friday, allowing purchases of Libyan oil and resumption of most trade, to reward Tripoli for giving up its weapons of mass destruction, the White House said.

A statement from White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the move allows the resumption of most commercial activities, financial transactions and investments, and that U.S. companies "will be able to buy or invest in Libyan oil and products.

1. Why would you NOT try to ease the burden of Libya's people.
We know economic sanctions are devastating to the citizenry. We've seen it in Iraq. We've seen it in Cuba. The despotic leaders will always get theirs. Sanctions don't make them suffer a bit. It's the people that suffer. Regardless of how it happened or who made it happen, WHY would you not want to ease people's suffering?

2. For all his faults
Khadafy (or however we are spelling his name today) has apparently tried hard to mend his ways and aid the U.S. against terror. As much as he has been a career scumbag, at some point you have to look at his actions. Lately, they've been good.

3. Same goes for...
Same goes for Cuba.

Help me out here. How is Libya any less a violator of human rights than Cuba? I find *'s forgiveness towards Libya hypocritical given his refusal to improve relations with Cuba -- and especially in light of the fact that terrorism is the biggest threat to world peace (second only to *, himself), not fading dictatorships.

(repeat above paragraph, substituting "China" for "Libya")

On a side note, I'm also intrigued by *'s rapid forgiveness of Khaddafi's sins... considering a total absence of forgiveness, mercy, empathy, etc during his reign of terror as Governor of Texas. (i.e. highest death penalty body count EVER!)

Help me out, here.

p.s. Only partially serious, of course. We all know why there's a difference. Libya has oil. Florida has a large anti-Castro voting bloc. I just wish someone would lead, rather than negotiate for votes.

At least we know the truth of the matter.

And do we want the talons of corporate america to sink into yet another country?
