Franken is blowing it big time....
...with his dittohead friend talking about the fact that the poor make up a large part of our military. He should just tell this asshole that the problem is that the rich should do something to prove their patriotism, too. Especially the Repub rich who like to cast aspersions on other peoples' patriotism. Dittohead doesn't see a problem with the poor getting killed in battle while the rich do jack shit to defend their country. Asshole.

Radio station for YEARS and then the first thing they do is attack the host based on a few minutes of one show.

More Dems eating their own...

23. a little criticism is healthy
The ability to self-critique is an advantage many liberals have over many conservatives.

I think it's good Franken has dittoheads on. The only voice you hear on Rush's show is Rush.

something poor people have to consider more than rich people (military service).

That's the fairness issue he was trying to get across.

and these ditto-heads are the same assholes who will tell you that the poor shmuck earning minimum wage at Mal-Wart actually probably enjoys the job, that as long as he has his beer and bowling league all is well.

I think it's cool of Al to have a polar opposite voice on his show. Just wish it wasn't while I'm eating lunch!

Fat Idiot" and Sat. Nite Live work, but so far the radio show has been kind of a let-down.

All this love-y dove-y shit with right wingers . . . "John McKain is my hero" etc. is getting a little cloying. Also, he basically SUPPORTS the war in Iraq and always has on the basis that Saddam was so bad he had to be gotten rid of.

Even if you buy that argument, it still doesn't explain why we had to overrun the whole damn country to get one guy.

And not only that, Bush / Blair said (after their conference in the Azores) that they were going in whether Saddam gave himself up or not.

We're not going to take back the White House by playing nice with these bastards . . . Al doesn't seem to get that.

***********
That said I of course would rather have him on the air, than not on the air. And his moderate views my pull the middle of the roaders in.

Lastly, don't worry about it too much, with their 3 stations nobody's really hearing much of anything.

17. agree with what you say
The poor do make up a higher proportion of our armed services just like they did in Vietnam while many of the children of the rich and powerful got deferments or went into the Guard--with some exceptions.

18. I was disappointed, too
After all, this was a discussion about life and death. His friend is so comfortable in his arrogance it's disturbing. It dovetails with postings here about disturbing Free Republic threads. Maybe it's just hard to think of retorts on the spot on radio. I think this subject will be revisited again and hopefully Franken will be better prepared.

22. You are right Franken didn't handle that too well, but that is because the
dittohead as they always do refuse honest debate. His points could have been easily contridicted if Al had said these people in the military that you claim you support are the same people who you would not let in your neighbor or in your country club or in your workplace unless it was to empty the trash.

I got the impression that dittohead doesn't give a shit whether these kids live or die as long as they and Al Qaeda don't infiltrate his gated community.

25. What is the alternative?
There is only one way to curb the financial incentives of joining the military, that is reinstatement of the draft.

This is a very unpopular topic and not likely to go over very well.

But the defense of our nation should be a shared sacrifice, we shouldn't be using economic incentives to supply the military with personnel.

I'm with Charlie Rangel on this one.

29. But that draft is most likely still going to...
...affect the poor more than the well-to-do. The rich and well connected will find a way out as they always do.

33. Not if I'm sitting on the Draft Board they won't
If I had my way I'd do away with college deferments also. They may have been needed once but not anymore. A college degree today gets you the same job a high school degree got you 40 years ago.

35. Agree. I posted on his blog - you should too - they read it
It's the heart of thr matter - the fact that they feel entitled to opt out from fighting wars ("if you are born rich, you are born rich"). Entitlement. This point needs to be addressed - it's crucial.
