CNN - Kerry's war record may backfire on critics
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/04/21/iraq.books/index.html

Those slamming Vietnam hitch may be shooting themselves in the foot

This week in "The Inside Edge," I look at how the dispute over Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry's military record could help him. snip

The dustup over Kerry's military records could be just the opportuntity he needs to kickstart his general election campaign.

During the Democratic primary, nothing impressed voters as much as stories of Kerry's war heroism.

For nonprimary voters still getting to know Kerry, few things could burnish his image as much as a conversation about how a young man from Yale chose to fight in Vietnam and ended up winning three Purple Hearts, one Silver Star and a Bronze Medal.

A discussion about Kerry's military service would also persuade many voters to take Kerry's military policy more seriously. Indeed, in pointing out that he personally understands what it means to fight and defend the country -- and even to kill -- Kerry could ease any doubt that he would be soft on terrorism or enemies.

1. This should be used to expose the GOP slime machine
How disgusting...these bastards slimed war heroes McCain and Cleland and are trying it again with Kerry.

I hope this news shows that enough people are becoming aware of what the GOP is doing and that they are not putting up with it anymore.

2. Maybe there is hope.
This whole thing has gotten me wondering whether Kerry purposely held back his records just to see if the GOP attack machine would take the bait....... at least I'd like to think they were smart enough to out fox Rove and his cohorts.

3. What has the sour O'Neil said since the release?
What per cent of news cover was given to this last evening or this morning?

Polite Dem leaders will probably not push the issue on the air and all the minutes the 'news' CEOs gave to John O'Neil will linger and Limbaugh and Hannity will cleverly (as much as that is possible) say something in lie form to lock down the fraud for all blind followers who think that Bush is awesome.

Can some journalist publish a list of facts in three columns = comparing the military history of Kerry, Bush, and O'Neil?

5. Not so fast... CNN is criticizing that first Purple Heart right now.
Un-fucking-believable. Here is an officer with an extraordinary combat leadership record, and CNN is talking not about the actual papers which were released, but rather the "questions" Republican critics have about whether he earned his first Purple Heart or not.

:grr:  :grr:
