Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Hey... My dad and I were having a debate. He was supporting *co.'s position that Israel 'has a right to defend itself,' which is about the only thing he agrees with Bush on. I was trying to convince him that historically, Israel has been as big an obstacle to the peace process as Palestine, and specifically, that Sharon is as big or bigger an obstacle than Arafat.

However, neither of us could come to a real sound conclusion, because neither of us have enough specific information to back up our convictions.

Could I get some discussion/information about this? Not just from my side but from both. I know there are lots of Democrats on here who are pro-Israel, just as there are plenty who are pro-Palestine.
