Why was Prince Bandar told about the "plans" at all ???
I doesn't matter as much to me whether he was told before Colin Powell or not. But, why was he briefed at all ? Since when do we tell the government of Saudia Arabia about our foreign policy plans? And was Bandar told as a representative of Saudia Arabia?

This is a clever diversion, but the important question is why Bandar was briefed in the first place? Can someone answer that?

4. I wonder if they ever 'vetted' Bandar?
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 04:43 PM by htuttle
...or the 4,000 or so other Princes in Saudi Arabia?

Nah, just remembered -- Bush closed down all the investigations into the Saudi royal family before 9/11.

Do you supposed they made Bandar promise not to tell anyone about the plans? Do you think Bandar told Crown Prince Abdullah about it? Did Bandar make Abdullah promise not to tell anyone about the plans?

"I've got a secret, but you have to SWEAR not to tell anybody..."

:eyes:

These guys are really, really incompetent. That's all there is to it.

20. According to my references
Prince Bandar was christened "Bandar Bush" by Bush the Elder. The Prince and his wife considered them "like family," according to Kevin Phillips' book "American Dynasty: Aristocracy, Fortune, and the Politics of Deceit in the House of Bush."

5. Bandar is the Saudi Ambassador to the US
so some discussion would possibly be appropriate.

However, for the POTUS & Co to tell him details of our plans for war, troop launching points, troop strength, and maps for the invasion would be a breech of National Security.

9. I wonder if that is why the KIng of Jordan cut his visit short today ???
He's leaving 4 days early, it was reported. "Hey! How come you told Bandar but didn't tell me??? I thought I was a close ally also??"

12. The plans were labeled "Top Secret - NOFORN"...NOFORN means...
...that the documents are restricted to U. S. citizens with the appropriate clearances. I seriously doubt that Bandar meets either requirement.

6. If Saddam moved his WMDs, I bet it can be traced to that briefing...?
Directly or indirectly, the information may have moved thru channels that were not in the best interest of America? And he incompetence of everyone else in the meeting, to keep their mouths shut about it? What a bunch of incompetents!

8. because Bush is a Benedict Arnold who should meet the same fate
as Benedict Arnold.

He is obviously working for Saudi Arabia instead of the United States.

Well, he can fucking GO THERE and never come back.

11. Amen! Why indeed?
When did we brief this guy and his country on our plans in the Mideast? How many of the 9/11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia again? I rest my case. And Ann Coulter thinks the liberals are guilty of treason? I think not!

10. NOFORN
Back in my Intel days, I had a rubber stamp that said NOFORN ("not releasable to foreign nationals"). I guess they lost it.

14. It was on a need-to-know basis.
The Secretary of State just didn't need to know about U.S. foreign policy -- only a Dubya buddy from another country did. LOL!

18. Bandar is a member of the bush family
and they owe him their very sould (& the bin laden family). You can even cross reference some of this stuff in ole lady bush's book "Reflections". She bragged a little much - notice they don't tout her book these days - probably wishing they could pull it back.

23. Bandar's wife nabbed contributing to "known" terrorist associates
Mark Steyn, "Bush and the Saudi Princess" :
https://mail.lsit.ucsb.edu/pipermail/gordon-newspost/2002-December/003897.html
Bush must have known for the best part of a year that in the run-up to 11 September Bandar's wife, Princess Haifa, had been making regular transfers from her Washington bank account to a couple of known associates of the terrorists. Bandar must have known Bush knew. Each party knows the other party knows they're engaged in a charade, but they observe the niceties, with Laura showing Princess Haifa the ranch, Bush hailing the 'eternal friendship' between the Saudi and American people, and Bandar regretting, as the Saudis always do, that they're unable to be more helpful.
