...I know this is a RW source, but I'm wondering if anyone can confirm this? British DUers?

1. Osmium tetroxide did turn up in the UK news
Edited on Mon Apr-19-04 04:53 PM by muriel_volestrangler
a couple of weeks ago, but no-one mentioned attacks in America. Many were also doubtful about the chemical being much use in a bomb, dirty or otherwise - some said it might be a catalyst, some said it's poisonous, freely available, but more expensive than other poisonous substances.

New Scientist:Experts divided over poison bomb claim

Brian Jones: Were terrorists really planning a dirty bomb?
After more than 15 years in chemical warfare intelligence, I cannot recall hearing about osmium tetroxide until this week.

You'd think a 'toxic' material would be more suited to an attack in a large public place (eg airports, train stations) than office buildings. The story sounds a bit dubious to me.

3. Does anyone know why security was beefed up in NYC this weekend?
Friends who work/live in NYC said there were more than the usual numbers of police, transit security, and Guardsmen on the trains and in the stations.
