(CPOD) Apr. 19, 2004 – Massachusetts senator John Kerry holds the upper hand in the 2004 United States presidential race, according to a poll by Knowledge Networks for the Program on International Policy Attitudes. 49 per cent of respondents would vote for the prospective Democratic nominee, a four per cent lead over Republican George W. Bush.
On Apr. 16, Bush met with British prime minister Tony Blair in Washington. When assessing the coalition effort in Iraq, the American president said the two governments are "standing firm on our word because it’s right, and it’s in the long-term interests of our countries."
Yesterday, Kerry referred to Bush’s handling of the situation in Iraq as "stunningly ineffective." The presidential election is scheduled for Nov. 2.
