Bush bullish, but......
Every now and then, I get the feeling that I am totally out of touch with the realities of our economy, the war on terror, the invasion of Iraq and much more.

For example, the administration was so bullish on the economy that the president actually held a news conference to herald the impact of his new tax cut on the economy. He thinks the economy is fine.

I thought the news that 556,000 people left the labor force last month was bad news. The Bush spin is that the labor force "thinned" last month, whatever that means. The fact is that 44,000 jobs disappeared in July; that's after 70,000 vanished in June. In the period since George W. Bush came into office, 2.6 million jobs have been lost. Food pantries are full, homeless shelters are overcrowded, consumer debt would scare anyone. Why am I not happy? The president is.

Maria Ramirez, a researcher in New York who was quoted in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, said: "The job numbers, especially the unemployment rate, really looks a lot better than what the reality is."

1. I see...
I am not unemployed, I am "thinned". They have thinned the economic herd.

I am so goddamned glad I have him looking out for me in Washington. Warm 'n Fuzzies abound.

Oh, Ms. Ramirez should be advised as to the fact that word-salading like that is an indicator of schizophrenia.

3. Great editorial
Was just about to paste it. I appreciate the balance in it! Loved the last few sentences in this second paragraph.

Let's be fair. In other words, let us not mimic Fox News or Charlie Sykes. The millions of jobs lost are not altogether the fault of George Bush. Bill Clinton and his pals at the Democratic Leadership Council must take a bow for getting Congress to pass NAFTA and other so-called free trade measures. They claimed then, and Bush claims today, that somehow sending our manufacturing jobs to low-wage countries will improve their standard of living so they can purchase American-produced goods and services. If you believe that, you probably believe that Bush invaded Iraq because Saddam was about to attack the United States with nuclear weapons.

I'm bewildered. Why can't I "get with the program"? Besides my confusion about the administration, the DLC now tells us that the "far left" may take over the Democratic Party. I don't know about you but I haven't seen a lot of "far left" Democrats lately. Maybe I'm out of that loop as well.

4. Ed Garvey is a fighter
He holds to the tradition of Bob LaFollette.

(? would that be considered 'Far Left' nowdays ? I guess so...)
