I have no connection to the DLC
Edited on Tue Aug-05-03 07:46 PM by jiacinto
I want to make that clear because that accusation comes out all the time against me because I disagree with those on the far left here.

Just because I am not part of the far left does not mean that I have any formal relationship with that organization. I want there to be no misunderstanding on that point.

1. But Dean supporters are not far left!
Liberman needs to talk more about health care and less about bashing Dean. If he is a democrat he needs to talk democratic issues

25. It is my understanding that jiacinto *is* a Dean supporter
Btw, jiacinto, I have never thought you were DLC. In fact I've seen you disagree with them on many of their economic issues.

6. My guess
The left are the average working people, many of whom belong to unions. For example, teachers, factory workers, desk workers, etc.

The far left are socialists, communists, militant anti-globalization activists, those who hate all military people, etc.

4. No it doesn't
I think I stand between them and the far left. But posters make that false association all the time and I want to clarify that.

11. My question for Carlos would be...
Well, then, do you disagree with the DLC platform and their belief that middle-of-the-roaders and white independents are the constituency that Democrats should appeal to?

and I get accused of being a DLCer all the time. It seems if you bother to understand ANY position that isn't popular here you're targeted.

10. Ain't THAT the phucking truth?
If you don't buy into every conspiracy theory, or trash EVERY single thing our govenment does, or believe every BS accusation someone wants to make about this administration, you must be a DLCer or worse.

I'm a CPA with an MBA. I am paid to be skeptical. I love my country and that includes my government. I think Bush is incompetent and a "big time" asshole with the way he rams shit down our throats. But, I'm not against the WHOLE government just because several members of this administration are taking our nation in the wrong direction.

But God help me if I disagree with someone on this board. Suddenly I become the stupidest person on earth. People at work think I'm a little better than that.

16. Dems need to appeal to a lot of people
We need to appeal to middle-of-the-roaders as well as leftists. That's how to build a majority coalition. We can't win with just one or the other.

8. Only you and my Replicant neighbor call me far left
Edited on Tue Aug-05-03 08:19 PM by wellstone_democrat
Hilariously I'm more of an old FDR Democrat than anything. But my good old boy registered Replicant and Rush listenin' neighbors claims I'm "far left". It makes me feel sort of daring and interesting! I need to wear a lot more black!

Although I'm never in those miserable "Green" threads I've been on the opposite side of more than a few of your battles (whether I'm posting in those threads or not) to be included in that gang I bet.

DLC never ever occurred to me! Too concerned about the way "others" will think of DU or Democrats certainly, but I never thought of that as an institutional position! But, for heaven's sake: far left? Sounds like Stalin or Trotsky is going to jump into these threads!

I am far left on some things and left of center or even centrist on others. And if that makes someone uncomfortable, that is their problem.

13. I know that
Frankly I've seen you transform many of your beliefs over time. I think you know I have no connection to the far left but making such accusations sets the tone.

If you and I disagree, I don't need to call you DLC...we can challenge each other's ideas on the basis of their merit.

I do think that some of your education was rooted in constructs capitalized on by the DLC and the RNC but that was more a byproduct of the university you attended and their curriculum.

The thing I appreciate about you is you are constantly reading more, informing yourself more and expanding your understanding.

The only area I think we have major disagreement on is strategy, the lengths we will go to appeal to subgroups and our interpretation of what is American versus anti-American.

I'm willing to continue a dialogue on those items or we can agree to disagree.

15. From 'fringe' to 'far left'?
Edited on Tue Aug-05-03 08:34 PM by Q
- Sometimes it seems you have the same problems communicating as the DLCers. They call other Democrats 'fringe' and 'far left' with the intent to libel and smear those within the party with a different point of view.

- Your and the DLC's attacks against fellow Democrats are inexcusable and embarrassing. It's the same thing the Republican party experienced in the 80s when they were taken over by religious, right wing zealots and other crazies. At the time the 'Christian Right' accused the GOP of moving too far to the 'left'. (Public education, environment, choice, affirmative action, social security, welfare, etc). All the 'real' conservatives were eventually replaced or driven out of office by those who planned to replace them and their 'appeasement' of the left.. (Gingrich, DeLay, Armey, etc)

- Now the Democratic party has the DLC to tell us how we need to abandon everything sacred to us for a few silver coins and false security. Screw the poor...the workers...the disenfranchised. They don't have enough money or property to be considered important enough to have representation in THIS government.

- I didn't become a Democrat to act like a Republican. I don't believe that the end justifies the means. I believe in fighting for peace instead of looking for war. Everyone reading my post tonight KNOWS we didn't have to attack and invade Iraq. Thousands of INNOCENT lives were taken for NOTHING but an oil and power grab. This is insanity. It's mass murder.

- Yet the 'New Democrats' call this a 'just' war. Any Democrat involved in any way with this atrocity called the 'war on terrorism' shouldn't be allowed to be a 'public servant'.
