I'm so sick of news and weather editorializing!!
Edited on Wed Aug-06-03 09:27 AM by patsified
Just report the news. Just report the weather. Do not tell me how I'm supposed to feel about it! I don't watch TV anymore for that reason, but I still get it when I'm turning dials on the radio to find out something as simple as the weather report. This week, the weather lady says, "Unfortunately, looks like some rain is in store for us here in southeast Michigan, and that's going to spoil lots of outdoor plans." I screamed aloud, DARLIN, WE'VE BEEN IN A DROUGHT FOR A GODDAMN MONTH! WE NEED THE RAIN! MY GARDEN IS DRY! DON'T TELL ME HOW I'M SUPPOSED TO FEEL ABOUT THE RAIN!!!

If it snows, they bitch. If it rains, they bitch. If it's hot, they bitch. If it's cold, they bitch.

The only place from which to get editorial-free news anchoring is the BBC, I guess. No one knows how to simply state the news or weather anymore; they all have to giggle or smirk or comment or sneer or roll their eyes as they read the information.

Thanks for letting me vent.

1. Yes!
Thanks for that rant. I feel exactly the same way. They do the same thing here in Colorado. Slightly better lately, thanks to the seriousness of our drought, but when we do get a slight bit of rain, it doesn't take long before the weatherdroids start complaining about it or cheefully telling us that it won't last and the sun will soon be back.

I used to write angry e-mails to the local stations, but of course that had no effect.

5. Hoping for a hurricane
One of our gulf coast TV weatherguys is always introduced as "CHIEF METEOROLOGIST........".
As soon as there's the teeniest depression off the coast of Africa or way down in the southern Caribbean "WE NEED TO KEEP AN EYE ON THIS FOLKS! THIS COULD DEVELOPE INTO A HURRICANE! (we hope we hope we hope). IF IT DOES IT WOULD BE HURRICANE JIM-BOB AND IT COULD BE DEVASTATING TO OUR AREA! (Oh please God, please please please)."

6. Have you ever heard old recordings of weather forcasts?
It was just a string of facts read from a sheet into a microphone, for the most part. I think that the advent of TV just forced everyone on the screen to either be ultra-congenial or not on at all. I personally prefer just having the facts read (or presented plainly) without all the fluff.
