Iraq could become 'terrorist Disneyland', experts warn

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - Iraq (news - web sites) could become a "terrorist Disneyland" and the conflict there is already inspiring a growing number of attacks worldwide, terrorism experts say.

While Osama bin Laden (news - web sites)'s Al-Qaeda network is the spearhead, local groups of enraged Islamic militants from Southeast Asia to Europe are seen as posing an even bigger threat.

"Iraq is the new land of jihad and the events there are having a profound impact on the Islamic movements and Muslim societies worldwide," said Rohan Gunaratna, associate professor at the Singapore-based Institute of Defence and Strategic Studies.

"Al-Qaeda is the main source of inspiration but the bigger threat today is from its associate organisations in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and the Caucuses," Gunaratna, a top international terrorism specialist, told AFP.
