Poll question: Worst President ever?
Who do you think is the worst president or resident that ever occupied the White House? This poll is a no-brainer!

2. Here we go again
It was Abraham Lincoln. He had far more blood on his hands than this newer usurper. But, at least Lincoln was intelligent. Go ahead and flame me all you want.

7. George Washington
was the worst - he was a slave owner and commanded his troops against the Brits which cost the colonies too many lives.

9. Funny!
Washington was fighting a war for our independence not a civil war that was against our own people.

13. Lincoln did not secede from the country; don't blame the Civil War on him
blame it on the region that seceded. History 101, buddy.

3. reluctantly voted for GW
I've always heard Grant as the worst president ever. I hate to pick Bush because I don't have any perspective on the other ones but I know it would be hard to top him.

4. Andrew Johnson belongs on the list; 2nd worst after Bush IMO
Edited on Fri Apr-09-04 10:13 PM by codegreen
because of how he totally bungled the reunification after the Civil War, screwed the former slaves, and in general totally fucked up and was very bad for the country; ramifications of his presidency delayed so much needed reforms in civil rights and other issues for a century, issues that were ripe for the addressing. he was horrible.

And then Calvin Coolidge, who actually got us into the Depression (kinda like it was really Ronnie's recession from 1990-1992, only Poppy happened to be in office--like Hoover--when it all came crashing down; and, also like Hoover, did virtually nothing to stop it from getting worse).

B-)

8. Harry?
Sure, he dropped the bomb. But I think he actually saved more Japanese and American lives by doing so. The war HAD to end.

Give 'em hell Harry did just that. At the time, it had to be done... to ultimately save (more) lives.

23. A couple of years ago I thought GWB maybe - now - no doubt
I've called Bush the Worst President Ever to some repukes' faces and asked them to defend him or come up with one good thing he has done. And frankly, they've got nothing to say.

Usually, all they can muster up is something like this "Gore would have been shaking in the corner when 9/11 hit".

But now I can just as easily refute that by saying with Gore 9/11 may not have happened. I'm, going out on a limb here, but Gore would have listened to the prior administration.

29. The most ineffective President of all time has got to be . . .
. . . President Al Gore.

Let's face the facts. He didn't even take office. Now, that's really bad.

And worse, a corporate mafia has governed in his place. They gave the budget surplus to their pals and started a war that looks like its only justification was profit.

Would any of this have happened if President Gore had taken office? I doubt it.

Let's hope that not taking office and leaving it to a imperious jackass does not become a trend for future winners of presidential elections. Judging by the results, let's hope this experiment in government is not repeated.

Next time, the winner should take office.

30. Remember the poll that named Reagan best president ever?
It was sometime during the Clinton years, I think, and if I remember correctly, respondents were asked to name the best and worst U.S. presidents ever. Reagan came in Number 1, and when a freeper relative tried to brag about that to me, I pointed out to him that Reagan also came in Number 2 on the WORST presidents list. He just couldn't comprehend this apparent anomaly. I tried to explain to him how the same person could rank high on both the BEST and WORST lists, but he just couldn't get it.

Of course if you asked 50 Republicans and 50 Democrats who the best and worst presidents were, and let's say Reagan and Clinton were the only two candidates, Clinton would get 50 BEST votes and 50 WORST votes, and Reagan would get 50 BEST votes and 50 WORST votes. That's why that poll was absolutely meaningless. But my freeper relative just couldn't understand this.

I think the only reason Reagan wasn't also Number 1 on the WORST list is that there have been a lot more terrible Republican presidents than terrible Democratic ones. And I'm not saying that Clinton was a terrible Democratic one -- Mike Malloy says Clinton was the best Republican president we've ever had -- but the freepers are so pathological in their Clinton hatred that they are incapable of getting this too.

Of course, that was during the Clinton years, and now that we've all endured 39 months of Deficit Dubya, it's no contest who the WORST president is.

Ron
