the 'recall' part of the California constitution will be repealed almost immediately if a Republican (most likely Arnold now) wins the governorship?

...It would be a hard fight since the legislature is controlled by the democrats.

Not to mention how hypocritcal it would look as well.

and then Bustamante steps in...so Bustamante needs to step
in before the election.
