WOW - GOP hates homosexuals, but accepts-cross dressers?
Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 07:02 PM by Must_B_Free
INteresting story about a race in Texas with the incumbant baptist exposed by pictures of him dressed as a woman.

We ned to get more of the truth of these people out there. Many of the high profile public figures have put up such a false political image to hide their reality. It happens time and time again.

1. This one cracks me up
Oh the secrets they keep! Or not!

Why don't they throw off their mantle of sexual repression and fear, and just be free? He should campaign in a dress, if that's what makes him feel good.

6. ha another odd caveat is sex change
suppose you're gay. you can't get married. BUT if you have a sex-change all is good with the state and you're free to marry. where exactly is the border of bizarro land?

9. Actually, the rules vary quite a lot from place to place
The deal is as follows:

- If someone is already married and gets gender reassignment surgery (GRS), that marriage is not dissolved. Yes, that can result in a perfectly legal same-sex marriage -- provided the person getting GRS can get a changed or amended birth certificate.

- Each state has different rules. Some will allow the birth certificate to be changed, some will not.

- Some states recognized updated birth certificates, some do not (witness that case a couple years ago in Texas, where some dead fellow's offspring challenged the validity of their father's marriage to someone who previously had been male).

- In general, however, most states do assume that an amended birth certificate represents the current and true gender, post-GRS. Thus, someone who was born and declared male initially could undergo GRS and (in most states) legally marry a man. Or in the other direction, someone female at birth could under go GRS and marry a woman.

Make no mistake, however. In this last instance, it's not a 'same sex marriage'. That birth-male who underwent GRS could not marry a woman afterwards.

It's a messy business and a real hodgepodge of rules, because most states simply don't want to deal with anything other than 'normal' people.

7. This story is hysterical.
I love the part about calling the pastor from the Steppingstone Church over to look at the pictures. And aren't they all a hypocritical bunch ? Can't wait to read Molly Ivins columns about this.
