"that photo was highly innapropriate!...
Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 04:11 PM by Touchdown
...Our sodiers and their families have enough problems without seeing this...yada, yada."

This is what I heard on the local radio driving to lunch Today.

Ok, in Today's Rocky Mountain News, on the front page, the photo was of a marine who had just learned that his buddy had been injured in the firefight in Fallujia on Tuesday. He was crying. I'm sorry I don't have the photo to post here (it is pretty powerful), as their website doesn't have it. If anyone knows how to convert a PDF to a Jpeg..let me know here, I'll try and get it posted.

Anyhow, back to this woman caller...

Get this, if any of these pro-invasion people get anything. This crying Marine is at WAR. That is what war is. War is pain. War is despair. War is maiming. War is loss. War is violence. War is destruction. War is death. Most of all, war has a REAL human toll on everybody fighting it. You wanted this war, and you got it...and ALL that comes with it. War is not John Wayne, parades, flags, and "throwing flowers and dancing in the streets". This picture is EXACTLY what you need to see, because this Marine is fighting a war YOU were hungry for!

EDIT: Check post 3 for front page of the RMN. Thanks Liberchick!:hi:

Reality check is what is needed. This is no freaking video game.

round up all the nearby German sheeple and force them to view the piles of corpses in concentration camps? They had been hidden from the horrors too....

18. This is precisely why I am AGAINST war
We are weeping for the US soldiers
and also the Iraqi civilians
while the Bush is in the counting house, counting out his money,
the Queen is in the parlour, eating bread and honey.

When he could have attended the memorial for this brave 6 year old's father who will never come home? This just makes me so fucking angry.

4. Converting PDF to JPEG
Put it up on your screen and take a screenshot (Alt-PrtScn). Then go into a paint program and paste it. Crop the photo, and save as JPG.

Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 04:11 PM by fryguy
want everything to be portrayed nice and clean. Just like their idyllic vision of America is - flashing by the windows of their SUVs at 80 miles an hour. No poverty and blight in this country, everything is just hunky-dory. No pain or death in war, just neat and clean videos of smart bombs.....

.....if it were up to me, I'd put a picture of each solider that died the previous day on the front page of every newspaper in the country. Let all Americans see first hand what the cost of this war is. I'd also add a line with a total amount of money spent and oil burned that day. Make people realize that their $3/gallon unleaded isn't at an all time high because we're not drilling in the ANWR or John Kerry voted to raise gas taxes, but because we're using so much to fight this unnecessary war and doing NOTHING to reduce our consumption and consequent dependency on oil....

10. This is what NEEDS to be shown
I think the war-happy mongers are scared to death of images that actually portray the reality these young soldiers face. Everyone's favorite line is, "It's their job to die for their country."

It's their job to fight for their country. Dying is not a benefit and the fact that we've sent 600+ home in bags needs to be shown in images, since those chanting to stay at war don't bother reading what's actually happening there.

13. our soldiers and families had better see this!
You are probably talking about the AP photo that was all over the papers today. I checked 2 other sources/newspapers and it was not on their online editions either. probably something to do with AP terms of use. AP has their own site for pictures.

No, there's no way the folks at home can avoid seeing this - nor should they.

Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 05:55 PM by elperromagico
Are they all as uncaring?
Are they all as unfeeling?

THEY wanted this goddamned war. Not only did they lead the march to war, but they beat the drum. Hell, they built the drum. Now they want to pretend everything is sunshine and lollipops over in Iraq. Everything isn't sunshine and lollipops in Iraq, and they more than anyone else need to know that.

21. Yes, I saw that newspaper cover this afternoon.
The photograph was heartbreaking, but not in the least bit inappropriate IMO.

This is what war looks like guys. It's already been way too sanitized with reporters not even allowed to show the flag draped coffins coming into Dover. The more pictures like that people get to see, the more they will be aware that there actually is a war going on, and real people get killed and injured.

No harm done to the troops and their families. If more people have an awareness of what they're actually going through, more of them might actually do things to help them, or even, God forbid, work on ending the war.

mean hiding them from sight??

Sounds like the days of "the help" who could only come in the back door, or children not being seen OR heard.

amazing what people who like war actually think........
