Will history be written about Fallujah as a tactical mistake
in a war that was a mistake? It seems to me the better solution instead of "pacifying Fallujah" would have been to encircle it and wait for a cooling down. Transferring political power in any orderly and effective way is more difficult now IMO.

1. Transferring Political Power
Is going to be a dog and pony show. The US will say that the CPA is calling the shots, but our troops won't be going anywhere.

2. That I know
"permanent bases". Still, was it a major error?

3. If you were surrounded by tanks and infantry for several days
or weeks, would you ever cool down? I know I wouldn't

8. Incitement, intimidation, false arrests, deprivation, and
much worse (read torture and rape) have been ongoing by US troops since the beginning of the occupation in Fallujah.

4. Bombing holy sites will be.
Yea, there is the risk of the other side using them as safe houses and bases, but how much anger and despair will destroying a sacred site bring up in the general population?

7. well look at it this way. . .
we shut down Al Sadr's newspaper for inciting violence, which incited more outrage & violence and to which we responded with even more violence . Now according to riverbend and the BBC, Sunni's and Shia's are joining together and clerics all over Iraq are calling for "Jihad".

A brilliant response to a bunch of angry, repressed, and unemployed people who don't take well to propaganda.

History will note that the illegal invasion of Iraq marked the end of the American empire and supremacy.
