McCain says, "Look past reasons for going to war..."
On CNN within the hour, they atrributed John McCain with the statement, "We need not to focus on the reasons why we went to war, but focus on what we need to do looking forward."

Pragmatically, I guess that's where we now have to concentrate, but I keep coming back to "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

Make no mistake, McCain is still towing the party line.

1. If the US wants allies to help them
Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 01:26 PM by Quetzal
they have to be honest with both the American people and with their allies and say that they were overstating the case regarding WMDs. It is the first step of many that needs to be taken.

16. That way lies madness

If the response to every screw-up, no matter how huge, is always "Oh well, we just need to move on", then we've essentially lost our feedback mechanism.

We've become a bus without a steering wheel.

McCain is a mystery to me. One day he talks the best possible sense, and the next he's talking nonsense.

Why do we always have to be the ones who let bygones be bygones.

for every nice thing I said about McCain. He's a republican bitch. If we really want a republican for VP get Hagel(I know it won't happen and no one wants that anyways) Just saying that McCain is GW's bitch and until he radically changes his tone, I have no further use for him!

right now we need to look forward and get ourselves out of this mess. We need to get our people home safely. THEN, we can and we must focus on why bushie sent our troops there.

*on edit

I also believe we need to keep the discussion going as to why bushie got us into this mess, we just need to concentrate on getting everyone home safe.

women to war based on lies will have to answer for it. We will not be silent, we will not go away, we will not retreat an inch.

7. "we need not to focus on the reasons why we went to war" Total BS
I hope they never stop focusing on the reasons why we went to war.

Bush's war has killed hundreds of American soldiers and injured many thousands more. FOR WHAT??? He MUST be impeached.

12. No, John, we will continue speaking the truth and will not go quietly into
denial, although Rove is coming up with some nice spin on this one. We will continue actively and zealously -- whether currently at war or whether hostitlities cease -- to find out who is responsible for sending these young men and women to war based on lies, so they will have to answer for it. We will not be silent, we will not go away, we will not retreat an inch. Not now, not for a little while, not ever.

19. it's a joke, but it's not
A society based on this ridiculous principle of "moving on" would look pretty much like your joke: complete anarchy.

It's like these people want us to stop remembering the past. And not just the distant past, but whatever they did yesterday.

17. PreSpin coming from everyone involved with this hoaz
It is disheartening to hear McCain spreading the crap.
Tomorrow we will see Condi answer every question with a "the future looks bright to me" speech. They will not address any of the questions about who knew what? or what was their plan?. It will all be about how they are prepared for the future. Nothing but campaign propaganda!

Look past the reasons we went to war....

I guess what he is saying is that we should keep digging, we should stay the course, no matter if we find ourselves in a deep hole... We should never admit that the Republicans fucked up big time!

When I started hearing this on DU & elsewhere, I nearly had a freakin' heart attack.

I am better qualified to be VP to a Dem President than creepy, two-faced John McCain. What next? Will we ask Cheney to stay on as Sec of Defense???

McCain is a Bush apologist who got sliced and diced by his own party and now is too stupid to not end up as their cheerleader for all the worst crap.

If McCain gets the endorsement of the DLC / PPI mafiosos, then I will start proclaiming Nader the second coming of Christ.

22. We as a Nation can NOT look past the reasons....
for going to war, asshole. The whole world was watching and except for the neocons and a huge chuck of the puke party, the world said NO TO WAR. We that were against the war saw that there was no basis for it, as put forth by this mis-administration. NOw they want us to forget *'s State of the Union address where he said nukes were aimed at us by Saddam. George, we will not forget. Every lie that you and your team put forth to take us to the brink will be thrown back in your face at every turn. 600+ Americans have DIED because of you and you alone. Thousands of Iraqi civilians have died because of your blood thirst and GOD only knows how many Amercians will die in the next terra arrack because of YOU. Is this the Amagaeddon that you, Asscroft and all you religious fanatics want? Is this the way you want to get into Heaven? Pal, when Christ does decide it is time to come back, you had better hope that you are not still running the show. My guess is that you will have a ticket straight to h-e-double hockey sticks.
