Deborah Norville, and exploiting the soldiers families for profit
Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 12:50 PM by Mari333
Just found out that Inside Edition is trying to get me and some other mothers to tell our "painstakingly sad stories" for their ratings. I wont.
I wont give them a thing, I wont allow Michael in jeopardy to be used as something they can chalk up their ratings with.
Ill stick to real journalists, if Im asked about how I feel, real people like Franken, and the Nation, and some print journalists out there.
The mediawhores wont get an interview with me, they are only interested in exploiting our kids in the field, and using them for ratings, if it bleeds it leads.
the hell with them
They werent there for us from the beginning, and now that Michael could die anyday in that hellhole, I wont give them the benefit of them using him and his possible demise for their ratings.
They can go straight to hell along with Bush and his gang.

1. You should do it...
and then tell them exactly that.

2. No. they tape people and then change their story to fit the media
I wont let them abuse the truth.
They have been abusing it for far too long.

12. Just don't give them anything other than that to work with.
Don't let them ask questions. Just make your statements, say the things that you want to say.

4. Good idea
Make them spend the money to interview you--sending a crew out is no small expenditure--then lay into them.

5. The problem with trying to tell them how it is, is that they will
edit it. They have control and if it is live, they can control that as well. I don't blame you for not talking with them.

7. It must be pure hell for you right now, Mari.
My ex-boyfriend's only son, his only child, is a Marine in Iraq, and he's just going crazy right now (we're still friends). Have you told the media whores exactly what your post says, so that they understand what's really going on and why so many family members feel that way? And so they understand their own role in creating and perpetuating this nightmare? Please do that whenever they contact you.

Where, exactly, is Michael in Iraq? Do you know what's happening with him now? How is his wife doing? My heart just aches for you and your family. I look at my own son, now (he's almost 13), my only child, and I cannot even imagine having to deal with him being in that situation. I remember my grandmother describing the year my uncle, one of her sons, was in Vietnam, it was the longest, most hellish year of her and the family's life. She could hardly ever watch the news, read the papers, or listen to the radio. And she didn't believe in what we were doing in Vietnam, either, just like so many families don't believe in what we're doing in Iraq.

10. Hes not married, hes 21 and a kid
hes in Baghdad. I watch the news to get whatever snippets of whats going on in Iraq in my head. No one is telling us anything, and Michael hasnt written for days.
So, its a nightmare, and I dont think it will be over anytime soon.
Unless we throw Bush out of the White House now.
which I wish I could do.

8. You are spot on, Mari333

Your assessements of what IE et al. will do to you are 100% correct. If you don't fit their mold, they'll bastardize your words, or edit your footage, or paint you as the "ditzy" one. They have NO vested interest at all in portraying you accurately.

Stay the hell away from them.

13. Totally Your Decision Mari
BUT there was a mother on Deborah Norville the other night who had actually travelled to Iraq to find her son - and also to garner material to write a book from an Iraq mother's point of view. I thought Deborah Norville was pretty nice to her - and the mother came off excellent. Even when they had some general on there who really lashed out at the mother saying she was "stupid" for going and that he thought it was for "political" reasons and that she had probably put other soldier's lives in harm's way, etc., etc., he came off like a nasty ass son of a bitch - and the woman came off as very intelligent and a mother that truly loved her son and wanted to see for herself. Your call - but I think unless the mothers of these sons and their wives and husbands speak out - people just may not be able to put themselves in your place and be able to sense the enormous pain this causes the families. Just my 2 cents.

14. Saw something similar on CNN this morning
Touching images of a little boy reaching out and trying to touch his daddy on the tv as his mom played a video of her husband.
