4. Clark cannot be Sec. of Def.
One must be out of the military for at least ten years before assuming that office.

6. Totally agree
Wes Clark. At least we know he does not have a hidden agenda to shoot Democrats in the foot. I have do doubts that McCain will do what is right for the USA, but he might use his position to make Kerry look foolish in the runup to the 2008 elections.

3. NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you see him this morning on CNN!!

He was praising our efforts in Iraq, stumbling in his speech as if they had told him they would do something Soprano Like to his family if he didn't act like a real Republican.

It was disgusting!!!

5. No, it would be giving the
defense issue to the Repukes. They aren't 'better' for our national defense by any means and that impression has got to go. We have plenty of Dems more that capable of any job any we don't have to dip into their barrel.

7. Why would we need a Republican cabinet member here when
we have Wes Clark, Bob Graham, and Bill Richardson, all of whom are better qualified. Hell, if you guys are determined to suck up to the Republicans, at least go for Bill Cohen, who served as Sec Def under Clinton.

Personally, the main perk of winning back the White House is having Democrats occupy positions of power. WTF would we want to staff a Democratic administration with Republicans?

I find this fixation on finding jobs for Republicans strange and somewhat delusional. Hire Democrats forst.

8. Welcome Bubba Fett
I have some real concerns about Senator McCains mental stability to go the distance as SECDEF. My fears are based only on my personal observations of the man. And, the democrats have way too many other talented and honorable men to choose from to have to resort dipping into the gop grabbag. Put General Clark in one of any positions, State, VP, Ambassador to Russia?

15. Wrong Neighbor
I consider everything from bush and son inc to be lies and totally without credibility. Senator McCain has gone through some significant trauma in his life. I would rather he not be in Donald Rumsfeld's job in January 2005 when we may have one horrendous military mess to take care of. A cooler head should be allowed to prevail. And, we don't need a republican in that position who may be covertly influenced by members of a former administration. I stand by my previous post.

What, Nader isn't allowed to even show up on the radar without getting beat down, but Pukes get hypothetical positions in a Democratic administration?

I don't think so.

"What, Nader isn't allowed to even show up on the radar without getting beat down, but Pukes get hypothetical positions in a Democratic administration?

the reason really, is that a dem/McCain ticket would be devastating for republicans. and wes clark used to be a republican himself, so apparently people can change... whatever the reasons are

He is a loose cannon, and would contstantly be trying to upstage his boss. Imagine McCain quitting after one term and running agianst Kerry.

17. Goddammit
And I thought when Clark's candidacy was over I could stop beating down these "Clark Fairytales"... Clark was never a Republican. Being a General in the army, he had to remain nonpartisan and independent. The first party he registered to was the Democratic party and was quickly endorsed by Michael Moore, George McGovern and was given the honor of having Jimmy Carter refer to him, saying "It's time for a real Democrat." Voted for Reagan. Eh, so what? Voted for Clinton, voted for Gore... Nothing Republican about him. Just saying. :) Now back to friendly banter.

I don't know if there's a better candidate for SecDef than Max Cleland. I'd definitely prefer Cleland to Cohen again.

19. why?
Why exactly should the Democratic Party give ANY jobs to ANY Republicans?

Ever see McCain's voting record in the Senate? He's to the RIGHT of Trent Lott!

http://www.vote-smart.org/npat.php?can_id=S0061103

Why exactly should a Dem give a right wing Republican the 3rd highest
Executive Branch office? Cuz they'd do the same for us?

Yes, the GOP has a GREAT record of crossing the aisle and picking the
best people for the job! Oh gee, well, just because THEY can't be "friendly"
doesn't mean WE can't, right? Let's pick a guy to the RIGHT of Trent Lott
to come over and 'help' us with our 'issue' of being 'soft' on Defense!

We're so 'soft' in Defense we can't even get into global war with 8 countries
at once, spreading our forces to their thinnest EVER, unable to provide them
with body armor! Let's make McCain SecDef so he can push STAR WARS
(he votes FOR every time), push MORE war (ain't that what a SecDef is FOR?
Afterall, McCain voted FOR every war, every REPUBLICAN has ever started,
e.g. Panama, GW I, GW II, yet seems to think DEMOCRATIC wars, like Kosovo,
Haiti, etc are baaaad ideas!).

Yep, ol' "straight shooter McCain". Never saw a GOP expenditure on WAR
he couldn't vote for, a Democratic use of ANY force he couldn't vote AGAINST,
and a jerkoff GOP right wing position he couldn't fall in love with, but hey,
he's FOR Campaign Finance Reform (the GOP is now using to CRUSH the
Democratic Party via lawsuits against soft money 527's but which strangely
KEEPS all the hard money methods the GOP seems to excel in).

Every day people come on here and pump up McCain. Does ANYONE ever
look at his voting record or positions? Also, CLINTON tried to reach across
the aisle and the GOP bit his hand off. They say so themselves; they are
fighting TOTAL WAR to make this a One-Party State, we don't need to help
them achieve their goal.

Bigby

21. Absolutely Not, Sir!
One of the great mistakes President Clinton made was to appoint the Republican Cohen to that position. Doing this would be tantamount to endorsing as true the Republican line that Democrats are incompetent to handle the nation's defense. This falsehood must be detroyed utterly, not confessed as true.

If McCain wants office in a Democratic administration, let him change his party affiliation, and become the Democratic Senator from Arizona.

"LET'S GO GET THOSE BUSH BASTARDS!"

McCain is no Liberal and in fact is almost as Conservative as bush*. The only thing we have agreement on is Campaign finance Reform. If he gets any position it should be with SEC.

23. I think it is OK - explained below
If I am not mistaken, the Governor of Arizona is a Democrat (Napolitano?) and she would get to appoint the Senator who fills out McCain's term... who would then be a Democrat. In a divided Senate, this could be HUGE. But, maybe Arizona has different laws about this?

having a Republican as Sec of Defense under a Democratic administration just reinforces the idea Democrats are weak on defense. Clinton made a mistake with Cohen, even though he wasn't too bad as far as Republicans go.

27. Recently there have been one cabinet member
of the opposite party in the administration, right now I think that the Dept of Transportation is a Democrat. I vote to give the Cabinet post of transportation a Repuke so that if there is another attack the repukes will get blamed. Labor, Defense, treasury, state and the envuroment must be a Dem. health or transportation could go repuke but Education must also be Dem.

28. Because he's a traitor? Why would you want a member of the Bush
Crime Family in charge of launching unprovoked attacks against defenseless countries? He's a war-mongerer, in case you haven't noticed. He fully supports all of Bush's illegal policies, in case you haven't noticed. He's a Bush Crime Family apologist, in case you haven't noticed.

I suspect you HAVE noticed as have the others that constantly bring up this BS.
