Which Northwestern state is more liberal?

I just wanted to gague what state in Cascadia (Northwest) is more progressive and more left leaning. The states of Washington and Oregon are probably the most liberal of all the 50 states. Washington is liberal in many ways but unfortunately has vast patches of right-winger types particularly in the eastern half and rural parts of the state. Oregon would seem to be more liberal in my view. It's your turn.

Although the farther you are from multi-story buildings, the more RW it gets, but I suppose that's true for most places.

2. I don't hate Washington. I was born here. I am from here but....

I am jst getting disenchanted with the way things have been going around here. Both sides Republicans and Democrats are not helping the state's problems very much. The only saving grace is that at least we have Jim McDermott as a Congressman. I also don't like the way Seattle has changed dramatically the last 10 years. It's not the town I once knew.

I think if things don't pan out for me here, I may consider a move to Portland. It's a little like what Seattle used to be plus I find the alternative scene less pretentious than in Seattle. I lived in Washington, I lived in California for a while. I might as well try to live in Oregon at some point in my life.

3. I only hate it

because I was born and raised in Oregon, so you know, it's a rivalry thing.

I live in CA now, but for a while I couldn't imagine living anywhere but Portland. Still have friends and family there, I hear the job market's one of the worst in country. The town's gotten a little more pretentious overall, but still less than in Seattle IMO. I'm not that current on politics there, but when I do check in it seems like the elected officials generally have their heads on straight.

But best thing? No sales tax.

But Oregon passed the Death with Dignity law. They're both pretty liberal (at least in the metro areas).

7. It's clearly Washington. Portland might be a little more lib than Seattle

but Oregons east balances it more to make it as a whole about 5 points less democratic than Washington.

Just look at it's politicians. Oregon has a GOP moderate and dem moderate in the senate, Washington has 2 lib dems.

8. But maybe I'm just chauvinistic

I voted WA, but I live here. By and large, most of Western Washington tends Democratic, if not liberal (except for the loony with the Uncle Sam billboard down by Centralia). Seems to me that the Oregon lefterly scene is pretty much limited to the Portland-Eugene axis of evil. Get much south of Eugene and you're liable to run into fully-armed survivalists.

I agree with you on Seattle, though. Too many nouveau millionaires running around buying $500K waterfront view concrete boxes. Entirely too Starbuckified. Not the same place I used to live.

10. Oregon - If I could find work there

I'd move back in a heartbeat. I'm 3rd generation Oregonian and have lived in Portland, Eugene, Grants Pass and Bend. I'd say the eastern part of the state is rural with some progressive tendencies, the SW corner is pretty reactionary with the exception of Ashland.

I currently live in Wyoming, which makes just about any part of Oregon look like Berkeley.
