History Repeats Itself-Echos from VietNam
The enemy has been defeated at every turn.
General Westmoreland
June 9, 1968

We have the enemy licked now. He is beaten. We have the iniative in all areas. The enemy cannot achieve a military victory; he cannot even mount another offensive.
Admiral John S McCain
February 1969

I think history will record that this may have been one of America's finest hours, because we took a difficult task and we succeeded.
President Nixon
July 30, 1969

As of today I can report that all our military objectives have been achieved.
President Nixon
June 3, 1970

In terms of military objectives, the main points made by the President in his speech of April 30 announcing the action were two: that the enemy was "concentrating his main forces in the sanctuaries where they are building up to launch massive attacks on our forces," and that in the eastern border areas of Cambodia there was "the headquarters for the entire Communist military operation in South Vietnam".
the Headquarters has not been found; hardly anyone believes any more that it existed. Nor did our invading armies find the slightes evidence of Communist troop concentrations prepared for a "massive" attack on South Vietnam; virtually no enemy tropps were in the border areas.
Anthony Lewis
New York Times
June 6, 1970

above quotes taken from "The Unholy Hymnal", compiled by Albert E. Kahn.

I have owned this book for years (first edition, signed by Mr Kahn) but just recently re-read it. It is amazing to me. Just change a few names and places and VOILA, you have todays headlines.
