9. I don't think the military will be so willing to invade another country
we might see outright mutiny!

12. Quite possible.
Something I think neither the neocons or neoliberals have fully thought through is the symbolic aftermath of the invasion.

The US is going to leave, ultimately, and what will supplant the hokey Bremerian Authority is anybody's guess. Probably an Islamic regime, sooner or later.

So what will the response be from the troops when they find they've been mutilated and lost their buddies--for a big fat nothing?

With any luck, the psychic cost of this stupid, dishonest war will put US dreams of imperial dominion on ice for another twenty-five years. The world could use that. Frankly, so could we.

2. Chimpy is as dumb as dirt, but even dirt knows the hole's too big
We don't have enough troops just to keep the lid on in Iraq. The military command (not the Rummy Neocon civilians) would go ballistic--they'd tell Chimpy where to stuff it.

4. way too much crap on their plate to consider it
Bush is at a serious crossroads where politically he's screwed:

1) Cut and Run-SERIOUS political damage, he won't do it

2) Maintain current levels-moderate damage, depending on how the situation develops...he's going to do this

3) Raise levels of troops-Good idea, stabilize situation, maintain order, establish democracy BUT expensive, lose military vote, lose relatives of military...probably won't do it

5. I think Syria is next
Congress has laid the groundwork with the Syria Accountability Act. If we go into Iran, it will because of their nuclear program or to help opposition groups "achieve democracy" as the pretexts.

6. With what army?
We USED all of our cruise missiles during shock and awe. And we have lost a large number of our tanks and APCs to the Iraqi dust.

He will face mutiny among the armed forces on a scale that hasn't happened in US history before.

10. Invade another country????
If he does, let's not worry about impeachment. Let's start demanding commitment to a mental institution. The President would have to be absolutely nuts to bite off any more since he can't chew what he's got.

For some younger than I the question is: Is this another Viet Nam?
For those as old as I am, the question is: Is this another Poland?

Pakistan is a Muslim country. Pakistan has "THE BOMB." Our current "good buddy," Libya is about as decent as Chile led by Pinochet.

Dream on in your cobwebs of self delusion, demented republicans, if you think that eighty countries (at least) of predominant Muslim constituency are going to be as trusting, docile, or believing in the mercy of republican America's "liberation." The last such nutball was "liberating" Poland.

was the vibe I was catching. Don't know if they could pull it off though. I think they will try in spite of reason.

15. Debkafile also reported Chinese tanks helping out the Taliban
Edited on Tue Apr-06-04 11:38 PM by Aidoneus
Poor Omar was riding off into the sunset still looking for the damn things. I wouldn't trust a weather report from that Zionist-Mossad disinfo front if we were both looking at the same cloud. The fact is actually that Iran used its influence there to encourage al-Daawa & SAIRI to stand down and stay calm. That was last year.. things may have changed.

The American MIIC is burning a bit of itself up every day. The ashes will scatter themselves shortly enough, no matter how hellbent and fanatical they are.

17. Public displays of being completely vincible are not good
for the PNAC agenda. We are not invading anybody big enough
to put up a fight for a while. Death from above, maybe, if
the situation is right.
