I seriously believe it. That day will bring out huge (negative or positive) consequences for the entire planet. The whole tide of the human race, I believe, is resting on that day seven months from now.

If * pulls out an upset, I believe the human race will be doomed within the next 30 years. I'm 21 years old, and if * wins, I seriously don't think I, or anyone else my age will live to see our 50th birthday. I believe the species Homo Sapiens is up Shit Creek without a paddle if * wins (steals?) the election.

This is mainly because of the possible upcoming oil shortages, abandonment of alternative energies, the US imperial reign over the rest of the world coming to fruition, PNAC actually being carried out, me and millions of others my age being drafted, civil wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and worst of all, here (if either this nation splits up, or the military enforces its will and nukes a few liberal cities). Nuclear wars with Russia, China, et al. The EU and others ganging up on us. Heavy sanctions being put on the US. I might not be allowed to cross the border out of the country, even though I'm a citizen of Turkey.

There could be world conflict between the US and the rest. Nuclear exchanges could happen. Nuclear weapons are once again scaring the shit out of me. At least these fears aren't silly and almost impossible like my asteroid fear. Crazy men would still have nukes at their helm. And believe me, those bastards are chomping at the bit to use them.

Americans could become more poor. Even with a college education, I would be worth nothing in this country. I don't even want to go on thinking about what could happen.

Now on the other hand, if we unite and make sure Kerry becomes the 44th president of the United States by being proactive, donating to his campaign, getting the word out, etc., then things will be a lot better than the years from 2001-2005.

If Kerry gets elected, I know that these things will happen:

-There won't be any draft. Anyone saying that even Kerry will institute one is talking out of their ass.

-The situation in Iraq will gradually get better. UN peacekeeping forces will tentatively start replacing US troops. Numbers of US troops in the area will be reduced significantly by 2007 or 2008.

-The economy will turn around. The rank-and-file working class consumer has been spit upon by this administration. Lower-income people will start recieving better wages under Kerry. They'll start spending more, because they have more money. And most importantly, jobs WILL be created. The deficit will be reduced year by year until there might possibly a tiny surplus by 2008 or so.

-The international situation will get a lot better. The American government will no longer be seen as agressors. No more additional wars in any other countries. Iraq will be stabilized.

-More funding for alternative energies, and finding solutions to a potential oil crisis.

That's what I think in a nutshell. November 2, 2004 is probably going to be the most important date in the world. I really can't wait any longer.

1. I just read the Buzzflash article
About how Bush might "cancel" the election, and now I am filled with dread.

Could he, would he? Somedays I am just freaking out about it.

3. "If * pulls out an upset" - if Kerry wins, that will be the upset
The worst thing we can possible do is start falling for the lie that Bush is now somehow the underdog.

4. the American government has been seen as agressors for quite a while now

it's not something Bush started, that's the long time reputation of the US government in most developing countries. It did got better under Clinton, though... and I think it would get better under Kerry. But it will take several decades of decent foreign policy for the agressor reputation to disappear.

5. I agree completely....
At 43 years old I have no doubt this election will be the most important I will participate in in my lifetime.

And it scares the crap out of me.

Even IF the voters and the machines go our way, I still fear that this mess wil take the rest of my lifetime to clean up.

And THAT pisses me off.

Damn Bush, damn Cheney, damn Wolfowitz, damn Rumsfeld and damn every other fucker who broght this on on our country, on Iraq, and on our world.

8. I agree, to an extent ...
I was actually worried much more 4-5 months ago than I am today. I say that because I think we are in the midst of what Anthony Burgess referred to as the "Pelagian cycle" in The Wanting Seed. Basically, his argument in the novel was that society swings back and forth between two poles--one conservative, one liberal.

We see the damage that is being wrought by the conservative agenda; many Americans are still blind to it. However, that does not mean they will be blind forever. As they start to become aware of what is being done to their children's schools, their parents' retirements, their own jobs, the cycle will begin to turn back toward liberalism.

I live in one of the most conservative states in the country, a state that is notoriously republican--but even republicans in this state are turning against the governor. The majority are beginning to see what damage he is doing to this state. However, no one on the democratic side wants to run against him because he is a multi-millionaire--in fact, he may actually be worth in excess of one billion dollars. So, if he wins, what does that mean? Well, New Hampshire's citizens will see just how crooked the system is. This anger could be the tipping point to turn the tide to liberalism.

I say, in my own state, let him win! Why should liberals rush in and undo the damage the conservatives have done? Why is it our job? I say, f@#k 'em. I doubt the world will actually end, but they will make such a mess of things that they'll be run out of office for a good long time.

I see the same thing if Bush wins. Some have argued that as a second-term president he'll run wild, since he doesn't have to worry about being reelected. However, short of declaring martial law, if he really screws things up, his party will be out, and their is no way Karl Rove, et al. are going to let that happen. Bush won't be working for his reelection, but to preserve his party's power. That fact will keep him in check.

Sorry if this is rambling ... actually, sorry because this is rambling.
