New MoveOn PAC Ad (to hit air tomorrow)
Edited on Tue Apr-06-04 06:26 PM by newsguyatl
VO: When George Bush testifies, here's what he should say:
BUSH IMITATOR: Before 9/11, I was obsessed with Iraq. Then I used 9/11 as an excuse to invade Iraq. So now we're less safe than we were before. It's just like Richard Clarke said.

VO: By invading Iraq, the President of the United States has greatly undermined the war on terrorism." George Bush: A failure of leadership. MoveOn PAC is responsible for the content of this advertisement.

===

The ad goes up tomorrow, April 7 for four days in a $200,000 buy on CNN. It is timed to coincide with Condoleezza Rice's testimony before the 9/11 commission.

MoveOn PAC asked its members to donate to put the ad on the air and say they raised $1 million (with 23,000 donors giving average donation of $44). The money not spent on this ad will be used for future ads related to Iraq and Richard Clarke's 9/11 testimony.

Is it just me or is MoveOn not just fucking BRILLIANT!? I mean, this branding "a failure of leadership" is good stuff. There needs to be MORE of this. Branding WORKS!

Why can't the rest of the Democratic party seem to get it right? The Republicans sure know about branding, just ask "flip flopper, tax raising liberal" Kerry. :eyes:

BE SURE TO DONATE TO THEM IF YOU CAN. I THINK IT'S MONEY WELL SPENT.

1. Just wait,
They'll spin the use of a Bush imiator as misleading. A Failure of leadership is a good branding though.

2. I hate their stupid voice overs of Bush
The voice overs sounds stupid to me. Why do they waste money on "what if" scenario's? Why not use what Bush has already said and bombard TV with the actual atrocities? Why not bring up that Bush won't testify in public, under oath? Why he plays by different rules? etc etc...there's a whole litany of things Moveon could use. Some of their commercials have been really good, but I haven't liked any with the voice overs of Bush, just my personal opinion.

3. I agree - they aren't as effective with fake voice overs.
Although I do think comedy can get a point accross without seeming like a real negative attack ad!

4. They should have hit the "WMD joke" instead
EVERYONE understands that message.. It would have been cheap too..

They could have just had a side-by-side replay of his "joke" on one side and then a montage of injured soldiers and flag drapped coffins..

Two sentence voice over at the end..

Our wartime president has a sick sense of humor.. Soldiers and their families don't see anything funny about the lie that sent them to war

8. Agree-we need serious leadership with a serious plan
This even bothered hard core Bush fans, Moveon missed a golden opportunity.

5. I've Already Seen It
I'm not sure where, maybe on CNN, but I've already seen that commercial, maybe yesterday, maybe the day before. I remember it clearly but just wasn't paying a lot of attention to what was on. I was just reading with the TV in the background. Anyway it was a day or two ago.

7. At least it's something to counteract the mind-numbing barrage of Bush ads
that were on MSNBC constantly the other day and on CNN today.

I agree about the WMD joke, maybe coupled with a comment on how he used the dead in his original campaign ad, showing how lightly he takes other people's deaths.

But bravo, generally, to Moveon, however they do their ads, for speaking up on the air, as is their legal right. Too bad it costs so much to have simple freedom of speech on the air.

6. Thank God because Bush's ads have been non-stop on CNN
and there MUST be a response.

This shit matters. I am well aware that this can be expected for the next seven months but there must be something done to counter it occasionally.

Thank God for MoveOn.
