Are You Bothered that Bush Has Made the U.S. an Outlaw Nation
Edited on Tue Apr-06-04 05:16 PM by The Lone Liberal
The war in Iraq is not a “preemptive war“, it is a “preventive war” which is in violation of International Law. A “preemptive war” is a war in response to an immediate threat. A “preventive war” is the war of an aggressor.

We, were not under an “immediate” threat.

5. On the "bright" side, it isn't like it is a new situation.
We were already the only western nation to have been found guilty of terrorism in the world court.

7. More than bothered
Deeply ashamed that so many of my fellow Americans think that this war is just fine.

Propaganda or no propaganda, they have a duty to think for themselves.

9. I disagree
This wasn't a "preventive" war. It was an agressive invasion under false pretext.

Bush has destroyed US credibility, he is destoying the US treasury, he is destroying the US military and the dumb ass doesn't even bother to read newspapers.

America is crumbling while Bush chops wood in Waco. Nero...meet your alter ego.

12. I just don't like the term
The average American hears the term "preventive war" and they think "That's ok I guess, we were trying to prevent Hussein from attacking us"

Words are important

20. Words should mean something.
That is the damn problem, to Bush words mean nothing. "Preventive" is against International Law.

16. Bush is only the most recent...
The war in Iraq is not a “preemptive war“, it is a “preventive war” which is in violation of International Law.

I am ashamed for this country... absolutely. But I question the assertion that Bush has done it. He's certainly added in more than his share, but when the U.S. refuses to be subject to the ICC, when it insists that every other nation not use landmines but reserves to itself the right to do so, when it refuses to ratify the Rights of the Child because it wants to reserve to itself the right to execute those whose crimes were committed when they were under 18, when it refuses to stop developing nuclear weapons but insists that other nations stop their development or efforts at acquisition of nuclear weapon capability, and shall I go on?... then I'd say that the US has been an outlaw nation long before Bush came on the scene.

My concern is more in the nature of when is someone going to make us stop? My question is not "why do they hate us?" but "why on earth shouldn't they?"

19. I just ope that the WORLD
can forgive the citizens of the united states for allowing this to have happened. IT is a crime against humanity and freedom. Had the Iraq people stared a civil war and then asked for help, that would have been one thing. To invade a country as we did is unforgivable to the leaders that wage this war.

I tell my conservative friends I'm damn proud of my 50% German heritage, 50% of my French heritage.

And I'm damned ashamed I live in this once-great country, that the neocons destroyed.

23. It's a sad time
the neocon Bushites has single-handedly made the world disgusted with US, showed the world that armed power talks, made itself a fine example for tyrants and repressive regimes to emulate, recruit more militants to the terrorist cause, displayed a flagrant disregard for lives lost (American & especially foreign citizens like Iraqis), belly full of double standards & hypocrisy, lied through his teeth to get what they want, will gradually bleed the US economy and jobs dry, unravel centuries of democratic progress that the US forefathers have made and history will judge this as a turning point for the worst yet to come...
