Why doesn't Bush just ask the UN to help?
Would the UN help us in Iraq? Under what conditions would they help?

Why doesn't Bush just do this? It would reduce the number of US troops, reduce our costs. It seems like a no-brainer to me. Why won't he do it? Would he have to give up something... like control of the oil or something? I don't get it.

4. I wonder how many countries would send troops to be sitting ducks in
the Iraq shooting gallery?...Most of the citizens of the world opposed this war and I wonder if their leaders want to send soldiers to replace Americans?....As a Canadian I would not want to see our young men and women in Iraq, even though my heart goes out to the young Americans who are there....It's really a sad mess!

5. I thought he had a couple of times, as in "give us money and men, and you
will get nothing in return." I can't imagine why everybody just didn't jump at this chance.

6. They will only go if they get a cut + it could be a political death now
See the problem was that W was told that this was a cakewalk and that we didn't need the UN. His cronies wanted the mononpoly on contracts and raking in the booty in Iraq (oil, stable workforce, and WATER-rarely mentioned) and prevent too many hands from getting into the till. The UN nations probably would have joined in if their corporations were given a chance at the TONS of revenue and revenue possibilities but..............

Now it could be very hard for many of these nations to jump in now as they could completely ruin their political careers as a result.

8. Why should UN help?
In order for UN to truely be helpful Bush would need to turn over control of military operations. He will not admit defeat, he will not surrender to world opinion. He has alinated so many other world leaders no one is willing to come forward to bail him out. I believe this is a personal testimony of the worlds confidence in this administration

10. The UN...
The member nations of the UN aren't going to be well-disposed toward sending their own troops to be cannon-fodder while the US maintains full logistical and operational control of the whole mess. But the US won't give up that control, because that might prevent Halliburton from getting every damn no-bid contract from oil transportation to meal services to laundry.

It's obscene what Halliburton is doing over there. You know, we give them a $4 Billion contract for, I don't know, folding soldiers' uniforms. They sell the contract to a company that knows how to fold uniforms for $2.25 Billion and walk away with $1.75 Billion for doing jack shit. I mean, we're just direct depositing BILLIONS of taxpayer dollars right into their account. Money that could be used for health care, education, or even just paying toward my great-great-great-grandchildren's massive national debt.

16. You just put your finger on why so many * supporters are desperate
to get him reelected.

Hundreds of billions in contracts buys a lot of shady campaign donations, manipulated polls, biased news reports, character assassinations, and maybe worse.

15. Last time we asked, they were, ahem, indisposed
The U.N. is for peacekeeping after a war is finished. This fucking invasion is just getting started and the Iraqis are on a roll to kick us out.
